Tara McGowan-Ross

Tara McGowan-Ross (born May 1, 1992) is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist, writer, editor and poet.[1][2]

Background

The daughter of guitarist Don Ross,[3] McGowan-Ross was born in Toronto.[4][5] Her mother died of breast cancer when she was young.[2][5] At age 17, she moved to Halifax, where she finished high school.[4] She later moved to Montreal, Quebec and studied philosophy at Concordia University. [5][6]

McGowan-Ross is Mi'kmaw.[3][1][7][8][9]

McGowan-Ross is the author of three books: two collections of poetry — Girth and Scorpion Season — and a memoir, Nothing Will Be Different.[10][8]

Her 2021 memoir Nothing Will Be Different was shortlisted for 2022 Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction.[11][12][2][13][14]

McGowan-Ross is married; her husband is a painter.[4]
