Infobox caption or... whatever
editIt is written: For servicemen from York killed in the First World War. What does this mean? Is it the writing engraved in the statue? And why is the "killed" bolded? GeraldWL 10:11, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- Gerald Waldo Luis, The parameter is "commemorates=" and the "for" is rendered by the template. It's to indicate who the memorial commemorates (see, for example, the difference at North Eastern Railway War Memorial). It was bolded because somebody was apparently playing with bold markup, which I've now removed. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:41, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- HJ Mitchell, thanks for the clarification! GeraldWL 13:48, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
Map?
editI've added the 'map requested' template above. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:10, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Another Believer: {{Infobox military memorial}} don't allow maps. (CC) Tbhotch™ 20:19, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- Tbhotch, Hmm, thanks but that's a shame. @Ɱ: Putting this on your radar since I know you've been tracking map abilities for various infoboxes. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:24, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- Another Believer, the coordinates are in the header and the infobox. Clicking them leads you to your choice of mapping services. I'm not sure what a map would add to the article, nor where you could fit one without having to sacrifice a photo, which I think is more valuable. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:31, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- HJ Mitchell, I don't think a map in the infobox would require an image to be removed. I don't feel strongly, but I am used to seeing maps for other articles about monuments, memorials, public art, buildings, etc. Not sure why military memorials should be any exception. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:33, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- Tracking now. I agree with Another Believer here, there is no reason why this sort of public structure should not have mapping capabilities within the article. Harry, you may be overestimating the abilities of the common reader to even notice the coordinates (which are only present in the infobox on mobile view), nonetheless know that clicking on them would lead to a map. I would bet 95 percent of maps in Wikipedia articles are seen while reading, but I would bet only 2-5 percent of readers would click on the coordinates in an attempt to view the site on a map. And there's an overabundance of space on this article for another image or map, or even five more. ɱ (talk) 23:19, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
