Unreliable sources and speculation

edit

Looking through the content here, the cited sources, and the revision history, there are some issues. DarKnight32 has added unconfirmed information with several unreliable sources. Filming started on 11 November because a Robert Eggers fan account on Twitter posted a photo on that day stating "'Werwulf' has now begun filming"? Ralph Ineson joining the cast is confirmed because a rumor blog affirmed it and because Ineson posted a cryptic tweet about how being on horseback is on his schedule for next week? I do not for a moment doubt the truth of these things, but Wikipedia:Verifiability is policy for a reason. Οἶδα (talk) 22:47, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

I haven't visited this article in a long time. But DarKnight32 is still adding bogus unverifiable and speculative information to the article.
First adding production dates with summary

Will try and find a source, but a crew member said that the 17th was the last date at Bourne Wood.

Yeah... that's not a reliable source.
Then citing a link that mentions "activities taking place in Crychan Forest" but nothing about the film....followed by a PDF from the same source that is no longer available. That is WP:SYNTH nonetheless.
Then another user makes an unsourced cast member addition, then DarKnight32 removes it, then they add it back, citing a Reddit post
Then DarKnight32 removes it, citing an Instagram post

Turns out its not Simon on set but it is Jan Bijvoet. Confirmed by a band member: https://www.instagram.com/p/DRaOxs0CC-0/?hl=en. Can't add just yet due to it being unconfirmed

Then the completely unsourced change

Change of filming date: will now begin on Dec 8.

Then TheMovieGuy adds a cast member, citing a Reddit post and saying

He was spotted in set photos, my hunch is he's playing Depp's father (https://www.reddit.com/r/roberteggers/comments/1p5q2lq/jan_bijvoet_has_been_cast_in_werwulf/) I'm going to find and attach a non-reddit host of these set photos and put it in the production tab for general readers to see

Then TheMovieGuy tries to bypass that Reddit post by adding a People magazine source with the added commented-out warning: "this source includes a photo of Bijvoet in character on set but misidentifies him as Simon McBurney." Yeah... that's original research. As well citing a Daily Mail article that does not even name Bijvoet, so it's all speculation from a photo in their article.
Then TheMovieGuy adds another cast member, citing an Instagram post.
Then back to DarKnight32 citing a Twitter fan account citing a crew member's Instagram story....yeah

Filming has wrapped. Confirmed via an Instagram story posted by the first AD which was uploaded via EggersFilms on Twitter.

Then making an unsourced cast addition
Then doing some crazy original research on top of unsourced material:

Filming likely ended on January 23. On the 17th, Jarin had aid that 77 days were done. Assuming they finished this week, it would have ended on the 23rd.

Then adding a music score composer based on a cryptic Instagram post:

Confirmed via this post on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/DLQQZ72MGTW/

Amazing work here lol. Seriously, keep this content on social media. Please. Οἶδα (talk) 08:29, 19 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
To be clear, @DarKnight32: in my edit I stated "Source says nothing about Werwulf" because you added the content in this revision. The content was as follows:

In November 2025, it was confirmed that production would move to the Crychan Forest and North Crychan Forest Quarry on the border of the [[Brecon Beacons]] and the [[Cambrian Mountains]], between November 24 and concluding on December 19.<ref>{{Cite web |date=November 18, 2025 |title=Filming at Crychan Forest Mon 24th Nov to Fri 19th Dec 2025 |url=https://www.crychanforest.org.uk/2025/filming-at-crychan-forest-mon-24th-nov-to-fri-19th-dec-2025/ |website=Crychan Forest Association |access-date=November 22, 2025}}</ref> Filming will begin on December 3 and last until December 13.<ref>{{Cite web |date=November 17, 2025 |title=WER_RES-LETTER_Crychan-Forest-Tirabad_compressed.pdf |url=https://www.crychanforest.org.uk/trail/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/WER_RES-LETTER_Crychan-Forest-Tirabad_compressed.pdf |website=Crychan Forest Association |access-date=November 22, 2025}}</ref>

There are two sources there. The first one does not mention Werwulf at all. It would WP:SYNTH to combine it with the second one to say that the first one is about Werwulf. Assuming the second one actually named Werwulf as you claim. But there is no way to verify it anymore. And the WP:BURDEN is on you to demonstrate verifiability. You then removed that second source from the article when you introduced an update from the first source (which, again, says nothing about Werwulf). The update was as follows:

Change of filming date: will now begin on Dec 8.

You just restored the content to the article with that first source. That is completely inappropriate. That is WP:ORIGINALRESEARCH because you are reaching or implying a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources. Look, I understand your enthusiasm for the topic here. You are clearly very knowledgeable and up to date on the details of this Eggers film. More power to you. I have no issue with that whatsoever. But you must understand that Wikipedia is not a collection of unverifiable speculation, rumors, or presumptions. It is not the place for us to copy whatever is posted by @EggersFilms on Twitter or any other material that pops up on Reddit or other social media platforms. Wikipedia is simply a reflection of what reliable sources tell us. A compiler of information that is presented in proportion to the coverage found in reliable sources, and not a publisher of original thought. If you cannot adhere to this with the respect to the edits you make to Wikipedia then you may be blocked from doing just that. I strongly encourage you to take a brief moment to consult the aforementioned policy pages to better understand all of this going forward. Thanks. Kindly, Οἶδα (talk) 04:10, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Completely understand. This is a fault on my part. I try and edit with the goal as using as much information from wherever available. Social media, I have found, is always a relatively good place to find information as the accounts I keep up with update regularly and provide evidence. I understand that that simply doesn't cut it and I have repeatedly been ignorant to that fact. I think maybe some policies could be done with updating as social media accounts of people working on the film and are confirmed to be should be considered reliable sources but that's not my jurisdiction. I acted in a way I was not aware was so frowned upon here and it is on me to do better from here on out. I appreciate your comments and respect them completely. Thank you for making me aware. What a thoughtful and considerate response, DarKnight32. I commend you for taking the time to notice the situation and understand how your edits have fallen out of line with established Wiki guidelines. I have no doubt that you were not aware of the standards held here. So don't worry too much. We all learn as we go along here. Happy editing! Οἶδα (talk) 05:17, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
