Ricky not helping
editA user admin called ricky, a christian, has made some ghastly changes to the article, removing images, paragraphs etc. My talks arent working. Any one else who feels these edits worsenify the articel, please say so. Ricky complains that he doesnt want a edit war but whenever some one changes the article, he changes it back with a really bad excuse. IMO: You are not improving the article. 212.103.241.89 (talk) 12:58, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
- The changes in the article are fine and I think Ricky has done a good job on this one. Still, I am looking to just merge all the AOY articles on to the main AOY page, so if I could have some help I would appreciate it. In Citer (talk) 17:33, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Improving this article
editThis article really needs improving and I will look in to doing this in the future In Citer (talk) 12:11, 24 November 2019 (UTC) I'm thinking of adding a section, though not sure what to call it, regarding the progress WMLK is making so far with the new transmitter that is being built in Switzerland. I will be adding to this article. Any insights to improve the article, let me know. In Citer (talk) 15:03, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
- As of August 24, 2023, WMLK is again broadcasting on 9.275 MHz (ironically enough, its closing blurb still lists its OLD frequency of 9.465 MHz). Therefore, this page: List of shortwave radio broadcasters - Wikipedia -- also needs to be updated, in addition to this one. For more info, you might try to contact: Nathaniel Meyer at Assemblies of Yahweh. Source: listening LIVE via NA5B (via Washington DC) on that day -- this is a SW defined radio online. Broadcasts on SW for ~ 3 hrs in the AM and 3 hrs in the PM except Saturday. 2604:2000:6FC0:101:7839:34CB:4761:B99 (talk) 01:08, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the update. I can confirm WMLK is broadcasting and may Yahweh receive all the glory. I have updated the List of Shortwave Broadcasters. In Citer (talk) 04:30, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Hope to make some improvements to this article soon
editHi all. I'd like to make some improvements to this article but not sure how to proceed. For now, I'll probably be experimenting when I have time in my sandbox with the article. Thanks In Citer (talk) 04:09, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
Changed wording and updated article
editFeel free to comment on any changes made to the article today by myself. I have tried to update information about WMLK, while also trying to make it a bit more encyclopedic in style. Thank you. In Citer (talk) 06:50, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
“Broadcasting grave”
editWhy should a non-notable German article critically describing WMLK as a broadcasting grave simply because Elder Jacob O. Meyer (OBM) is no longer alive be in the article? Do other radio articles that broadcast messages of people that are no longer alive called a broadcasting grave? If you watch a film from an actor who has passed away, do you call that film or the broadcaster a broadcasting grave? It is offensive and shouldn’t be in the article and if they are no objections I’ll be removing from the article.
If you want to use an article for the article I found this notable one: https://www.radioheritage.com/shortwave-station-wmlk/ In Citer (talk) 01:24, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
Proposed Removal of the Phrase “Broadcasting Grave”
editI haven't received any feedback from what I wrote above so again to avoid any edit wars, I would like to propose the removal of the line describing WMLK as “a broadcasting grave of a radio preacher.” Although it is attributed to a journalist, it does not meet the standards required for inclusion in an encyclopedic article. The following core Wikipedia policies apply:
- 1. WP:NPOV (Neutral Point of View)
The phrase is emotionally loaded and evaluative. It frames the station and its founder in a negative manner and does not maintain neutral, descriptive language. Encyclopedic tone requires neutrality, and this wording does not meet that standard.
- 2. WP:TONE
Wikipedia discourages the use of metaphorical, sensational, or disparaging language. “Broadcasting grave” is a metaphor intended for rhetorical effect in journalism, not for neutral encyclopedic writing.
- 3. WP:UNDUE
This is a single comment from one journalist and does not represent significant or widespread analysis of WMLK. Giving it prominent placement in the article gives undue weight to a solitary opinion.
- 4. WP:BLPSTYLE (applies even to deceased individuals)
The statement reflects negatively on Jacob O. Meyer, and biographies—whether of the living or recently deceased—require particular care with contentious or judgmental material. Opinions of this nature must be treated cautiously and not emphasised.
- 5. WP:NOTNEWS
Wikipedia is not a place for routine news commentary, nor should it import a journalist’s rhetorical phrasing unless it constitutes significant, lasting coverage. This appears to be a passing remark rather than an established scholarly assessment.
Summary
editFor these reasons, the phrase does not conform to Wikipedia’s standards for neutrality, balance, or encyclopedic tone. I recommend replacing it with a neutral, factual description of WMLK’s programming, such as: “The station broadcasts archived teachings by founder Jacob O. Meyer, who passed away in 2010. Its programming consists primarily of preserved recordings maintained for ongoing study and outreach.” I welcome feedback from other editors, but believe that removal of the metaphorical and non-neutral phrasing is appropriate based on the policies cited above. I'm going to WP:FIXIT now as I have waited for a response for several days. In Citer (talk) 02:40, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
Promotional Tag
editI noticed that yesterday User:Peter Chastain added a promotional tag to the article, again, without any explanation in the talk page to discuss this. If it simply reads promotional because there is nothing negative to say about WMLK, then that isn't promotional, that is simply factual. If you feel it is promotional then explain why. I don't see how it reads promotionally. I feel it factually states what WMLK is, its history and its schedule without any undue bias. I believe in this case WP:CLEANUPTAG is in order — tags should not remain if they are inaccurate, resolved, or not explained. If the text merely explains WMLK’s history, operations, or broadcasting, that is not promotional. Now I've contested this tag and as Wikipedia policy states, if no reasonable reason is given after a reasonable time (e.g., a week), I may remove it In Citer (talk) 03:05, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
- In Citer, thank you for responding to my tag. I don't take issue with any of the facts as presented, but the tone—writing style—seems more promotional than encyclopedic. The fact that the first few paragraphs reference AOY websites adds to this impression:
- The sentence This marked the beginning of WMLK's journey as a dedicated station for proclaiming Yahweh's truth. sounds like something from a book that one of my former employers sometimes gave to potential donors.
- The (repeated) use of the the titles Elder and Deacon is not consistent with WP:HONORIFIC.
- The detailed list of radio stations (and broadcast times) is unnecessary in an encyclopedic article and would be more appropriate in the WMLK or AOY website.
- For what it's worth, I enjoyed the excerpt from the ARRL small-antenna publication. I am an ARRL member.
- I absolutely support the existence of this article in Wikipedia. If the issues I identified are addressed satisfactorily, I will happily remove the tag.
- A final detail: You mentioned that I "again" added the tag. I don't remember ever commenting on this article. Is it possible that someone else has previously tagged it? If so, I would appreciate having them weigh in on this.Peter Chastain (talk) 06:40, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Peter. Thank you for your response. Your comments have helped me see more clearly where the article may need adjustment, particularly in terms of tone. I appreciate you pointing that out, as I recognise I may be too close to the subject to judge neutrality as objectively as I should.
- Regarding my use of the word “again,” I should clarify that I did not mean it specifically in relation to this article alone. I was referring more broadly to previous edits and maintenance tags added across various Assemblies of Yahweh-related articles, sometimes without prior discussion on the relevant talk pages. That broader context was what I had in mind, though I understand how it may have read differently here.
- In any case, I will review the article with your comments in mind and work on bringing it more clearly in line with encyclopedic standards when I have the opportunity. Thank you again for taking the time to engage.

Made article more encyclopedic
editI have revised the article to address the promotional tone concerns. The prose has been rewritten to better align with WP:NPOV and WP:NOTPROMO, with mission-oriented and value-laden language removed or rephrased in a descriptive manner. I also reduced directory-style broadcast listings in line with WP:NOTDIRECTORY and ensured that key historical details are supported by citations per WP:V. Additionally, I incorporated a sourced reference to Gary McAvin in the history section to provide context regarding the station’s technical development. Regarding Jacob O. Meyer, I retained the honorific “Elder” on first reference only, as it is the form by which he is widely identified in reliable sources, while keeping subsequent references neutral for consistency with encyclopedic style. Feedback is welcome, particularly on whether these revisions sufficiently resolve the promotional concerns. In Citer (talk) 07:50, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
