General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
    QPQ: Done.

Overall: @Onegreatjoke: I was the one who reviewed and promoted the article to GA, so I'm definitely willing to take over this nomination, as well! To be honest, everything looks fine, including your QPQ. I just think you could optimize the hook even more by focusing on the comparison between Wembanyama and Lebron, but this is mainly a suggestion, rather than a must. On a side note, was "being described him" a typo? That pronoun looks a bit weirdly-placed to me... Please, let me know what you think about this. Oltrepier (talk) 14:29, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Oltrepier: How about, ALT1: ... that Victor Wembanyama is regarded as one of the greatest NBA prospects of his generation even being described as the most anticipated prospect since LeBron James in 2003? Onegreatjoke (talk) 19:15, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Onegreatjoke: Nice, although I was thinking more about something like this:
ALT2: ... that Victor Wembanyama has been described as the most anticipated NBA prospect since LeBron James in 2003?
[Also, I slightly edited your previous message, so your own proposed hook can be recorded by the bot.] Oltrepier (talk) 19:46, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I forgot to call for help from other reviewers in here... Oltrepier (talk) 10:01, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, Oltrepier, you can't review a DYK nom if you reviewed it for GA status as well. might we get another reviewer in here? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 02:30, 13 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
theleekycauldron Sorry, I genuinely didn't know that... Good thing that I picked the red arrow over the green tick, then! : D Oltrepier (talk) 13:49, 13 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I see no problems. All cited, earwig only tagged the LeBron quote, length/newness to good article are fine, etc.

Add "Wembanyama was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the youngest player in league history to win the award at 22 years old and the first unanimous selection in NBA history. He led the league in blocks for a third consecutive season, further extending his streak as the NBA’s blocks leader since his rookie year." to the paragraph about his 2025-26 season. ~2026-89228-8 (talk)`

Is the religious views heading necessary/warranted?

    edit

The first thing the religious views section notes is that Wembanyama hasn't publicly expressed his religious views other than not being Buddhist. The rest of the section discusses his experience in a retreat at the Shaolin Temple, which of course is not really an expression of religious views. I propose eliminating the religious views heading and just keeping the text in the personal life section. PatriarchMacbeth (talk) 21:14, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

    I suggest removing it all as WP:NOTDIARY. —Bagumba (talk) 21:22, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think removing the subheading, along with the the first sentence and the quote would be appropriate—his retreat was reported in a good deal of outlets so I think it’s still notable enough to get a short mention. I’ve decided to WP:BEBOLD and do that. Dingers5Days (talk) 06:20, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Change “jaw” to “neck” in “ In Game 4, Wembanyama elbowed Naz Reid in the jaw following an offensive rebound, resulting in a flagrant 2 foul that caused his automatic ejection from the game. It was the first ejection of his career. He finished with four points and four rebounds in 13 minutes played.[133]“

The blow struck Naz Reid in the neck. The page’s account is inaccurate. ~2026-28399-08 (talk) 07:13, 12 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think the article should say he played SOCCER, not FOOTBALL! Thank you for your time.

Change "Wembanyama played football as a goalkeeper and" to "Wembanyama played soccer as a goalkeeper and" ~2026-28834-09 (talk) 02:53, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: This article uses British English per WP:ENGVAR, which means British terms (football) are used rather than American (soccer). The word in the article is helpfully linked for clarity. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 03:31, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

    Outdated overview

    edit

The current description is quite out of date “ He was selected first overall by the Spurs in the 2023 NBA draftand is considered one of the best basketball prospects ever due to his rare combination of height, agility, and skills.” The introduction could follow other NBA superstars structure

eg: Victor Wembanyama (born January 4, 2004), also known as Wemby, is a French professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Nicknamed “The Alien,” he is widely regarded as the most dominant defender in the NBA today.

Wembanyama has won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award — as the first unanimous winner in the award’s history — and the Western Conference Finals Most Valuable Player Award . He has led the NBA in blocked shots for three consecutive seasons and has been named to one All-NBA First Team and selected twice as an NBA All-Star. He joins David Robinson and Michael Jordan as the only players to win both NBA Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. “ AntoineBonnin (talk) 22:07, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

He also is currently leading the Spurs to their first NBA Finals in 12 years Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-19159-42 (talk) 16:56, 9 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
