@LittleJerry I'm almost completely certain that the box turtle in the taxobox is a young juvenile. It would be ideal to depict an adult. I think using this image showing the type species of the clade's namesake genus is better.

Tortoises themselves are a highly distinct and specialized group within turtles so I think it would better to have a non-tortoise in the lead. The box turtle may be a juvenile but it still shows the image the average person has of a turtle. LittleJerry (talk) 18:59, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
The box turtle is also half retracted into its shell, and viewed from an oblique angle. Also, box turtles are also a highly distinct and specialized group within turtles, and no less so than tortoises. Bloopityboop (talk) 21:55, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Tortoises are the most specialized for living on land and have unique elephantine feet, and the proposed image also has a distracting background. I don't see the need to change a long-standing image. The oblique angle is fine and we see enough of the legs and head. I'll let others comment. LittleJerry (talk) 22:47, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

How a bout a small (3-5 image) collage that includes at least one each of a sea turtle, a semi-aquatic turtle, and a tortoise? That way it's clear from the jump that this is an overview article that includes all types. oknazevad (talk) 22:55, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

We had one before and I changed it back to this image but perhaps that was a mistake. I personally think collages are more important for scope rather than diversity and perhaps this is a case where the scope should be shown. The average person colloquially thinks of "turtle" as distinct from "tortoise" and "terrapin" so a collage signals to readers that this article is about all of them. "The average person colloquially thinks of "turtle" as distinct from "tortoise" and "terrapin"" Citation needed. Because where I'm from, everyone understands the "tortoises" and "terrapins" are subgroups within "turtles". The idea that anyone doesn't understand this is as mind-boggling to me as the idea of someone thinking that cows and lions are somehow separate from mammals. --User:Khajidha (talk) (contributions) 15:27, 5 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think this is a really good idea. Bloopityboop (talk) 01:11, 30 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Map - Newfoundland

edit

the map shows a black strip along the southern coast of Newfoundland but there are no turtles at all on the island. No reptiles in fact ~2026-12147-71 (talk) 15:18, 16 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

The black portion is very small and was possibly put in by mistake.  Preceding unsigned comment added by G6h7j8k9 (talkcontribs) 15:43, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
