editThe Iommi (band) should have a split page, so that this seems less cluttered. Vegetaman 10:41, 15 August 2006 (CST)
Doom Metal pioneer
editShould doom metal be listed as a genre? ik this was discussed on the actual black sabbath page itself but didnt regard Iommi. Considering he's considered the pioneer of this genre as well i think it should at least be discussed Hiskad (talk) 14:41, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
- While he is one of the influences to doom metal, he isn't doom metal. It would be unnecessary to add a genre that was the influence to the genre, which his music is not. HorrorLover555 (talk) 04:02, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- He isnt doom metal BUT he has made his fair share of songs that ARE doom metal. I can also see quite a few sources that consider him not only an influence, but a pioneer Hiskad (talk) 19:58, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- Disagree. Just because he has made a few songs that have that sound and is a pioneer for that sub-genre, does not mean that he is. And a majority of sources I have seen report him and the rest of the band as "heavy metal" per a long withstanding consensus from the band's article. As someone had said in the past before: "
there are plenty of reliable publications saying that doom metal was inspired by Black Sabbath, but not that their music was doom
". HorrorLover555 (talk) 01:38, 25 November 2025 (UTC)- I get where ur coming from and i agree sabbath isnt fully suit to be called doom, but Iommi himself has featured in other doom works outside of sabbath such as Door to Doom by candlemass.
- With my point here, i'd like to also highlight that Brian May has "heavy metal" listed in his genre infobox, yet he himself has not released any heavy metal works nor is Queen listed as heavy metal - yet, as I also understand, its an understandable categorisation Hiskad (talk) 16:25, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
- While he may have worked on other works, we should wait for more input from other editors. In regards to the highlight regarding Brian May, WP:OTHERSTUFF is not a valid argument, and has nothing to do with this discussion. HorrorLover555 (talk) 08:37, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
