Incorrect Image

edit

The image that is listed as "Print of Clarkson, circa 1840" is actually a portrait of another antislavery campaigner, William Knibb. Have a look at the images on his page for confirmation. I study the painter, Henry Room, and this engraving got misidentified at some point, I think by the British Museum or the National Portrait Gallery, and the error keeps getting circulated. Thanks, will research.
https://www.google.com/search?q=William+Knibb&client=ms-android-google&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8 gives a few published images and to be honest I cannot say the Clarkson images is incorrect, or specifically one of William Gibbs but there is enough of a "likeness" to be worthy of more research.

Definitely the wrong image – it's William Knibb – see https://www.brunel.ac.uk/life/library/ArchivesAndSpecialCollections/News-and-events/News/William-Knibb for example... Besides, Clarkson was ancient by then, and he wouldn't have been so a la mode like a younger man... Katiehawks (talk) 23:21, 3 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

The difficulty is in ending this conversation whilst you have, for example, this listing. I'm sorry I was unable to find the relevent information in the Brunel link provided. A start would be to note such discussions in the commons entry and here. Thoughts?
