Requested move 22 May 2022

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. The result of the move request was: Procedural close. As noted by both sides of the debate, moving just Theravada alone will cause consistency problems. A new RM that involves moving all the schools of Buddhism at once should be opened, at the very least. (closed by non-admin page mover)Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! TheravadaTheravada Buddhism – Adding 'Buddhism' to the article as there seemed to be support for this in the prior discussion, and for consistency with the History of Theravada Buddhism article. Comment I'm indifferent over Theravada or Theravada Buddhism, I think both are perfectly acceptable titles. I do think that if the title was to change then we should also change Mahayana to Mahayana Buddhism, as well as change Vajrayāna to Vajrayāna Buddhism for the sake of consistency. Which I think are perfectly sensible changes. Wikiman5676 (talk) 17:24, 22 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
I would agree with you there, and am somewhat indifferent to the changes myself. But I think the proposed titles will clarify things for our readers. QueenofBithynia (talk) 10:46, 23 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Impact on modern society

edit

i created a section that focuses on the affect this sect of buddhism had on modern society. it talks about the techniques like yoga and mindfulness that they practiced and how it translated to modern day. it then talks about the ethical conduct that was passed on and how people of todays world unknowingly follow some of the practices they talk about. Charles Henry Allan Bennett

edit

I have added the TheravadaBuddhism tag seen on the right

on the Charles Henry Allan Bennett/ Ananda Metteya page.

I am yet to connect it in any way, but as he was the first Theravadha missionary to england I feel he is a worthy candidate for inclusion.

He formed the Buddhasāsana Samāgama (International Buddhist Society) and the The Buddhist Society of Great Britain and Ireland which was the beginings of the The Buddhist Society as mentioned here.

  • "The work he began, that of introducing Buddhism to the West, he pushed with enthusiastic vigour in pamphlet, journal and lecture, all masterly, all stimulating thought, all in his own inimitably graceful style. And the results are not disappointing to those who know."

Anyhow this is as far as I have got is to put the TheravadaBuddhism tag on his page, any input would be helpful if we can include it as a part of the series

All good wishes. AK108B (talk) 13:03, 18 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
