Prod
editThis article was prodded on December 13, 2006 with the reason "Now, I played this game as a child like most people, but this article is just terrible." I agree, the article is poor. But the subject is notable (per nom), and being badly written is not normally grounds for deletion. Perhaps someday it will be improved. Matchups 17:31, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

editYep, I agree —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.173.40.52 (talk) 10:18, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Cats
editNot sure why my previous addition was removed. I don't see any discussion... In any event, it is a serious addition and I have re-added it. Please let me know if you want to discuss it. RBarryYoung (talk) 14:29, 22 August 2009 (UTC)RBarryYoung
A serious addition ? Seriously ? Do you really mean there are cats that are able to imagine the floor is made of lava (or maybe water :-) ) so they can't touch it while moving ? WendelScardua (talk) 14:15, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
Broken Link
editThe external link to the game rules is broken. Kazuko Kodo (talk) 21:31, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Teens
editThe article says,
"The game is popular between kids and teens.."
I could imagine a bunch of five-year-olds pretending that a floor is lava, but teens seem a bit mature for it. I have changed this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.242.219.182 (talk) 13:54, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Wait, I take it back. I noticed it said it has become increasingly popular over older kids and teens, meaning that it is now targeting a more mature audience. Even though i can't picture it, I'm removing it until a proper source is found. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.242.219.182 (talk) 13:59, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

The floor is lava → Hot lava (game) – "The floor is lava" is just a currently trending meme that is just simply words for starting the game of hot lava. That's my opinion, but should there be a move request, I don't think it should be a technical request. 76.116.198.27 (talk) 11:59, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:46, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- Per WP:COMMONNAME the article should be "The floor is lava". TarkusAB 13:35, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- The sources on the article state the name is "the floor is lava", and as TarkusAB says, it's per COMMONNAME, unless you can find a source that states otherwise. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 13:44, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- @76.116.198.27, TarkusAB, and Vaselineeeeeeee: Queried "revert undiscussed move" request . Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:46, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose – Current memes aside, "the floor is lava" does indeed appear to be the common name. V2Blast (talk) 10:22, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

What Victoria?
editThe article currently mentions that 'This game was often played in school shelter-sheds in Victoria', without reference and also without specifying which Victoria. Can anyone who knows specify? Can anyone add a source? 129.143.131.231 (talk) 10:52, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- That was added in 2019, but I don't see a resemblance between the two games and the target article makes no mention of "the floor is lava" so the similarity seems to be original research. I've removed it. Schazjmd (talk) 13:57, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
