Talk:United States and state terrorism

NPOV

edit

3/4 of this srticle justifies US actions, and only 1/4 is related to the article matter. Moreoever, there's no list of examples of the US and state terrorism, despite the country having a long list of it. In comparison, look at the Iranian article where ONE sentence points out that Iran is a Shia country and radical Sunnis consider it a heretic while the rest of article is a constant, non stop bashing charade of Iran based upon US sources. Double standards are clearly visible here. Compare the article on Iran.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.220.72.109 (talk) 03:36, 26 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Fine, then fix it, no use just complaining and accusing.--NYCJosh (talk) 20:21, 28 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
No such 'state terrorism' exists, sorry. Statements by America-haters do not make it so.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.111.24.29 (talk) 15:22, 22 June 2019 (UTC) Reply

since when has Noam Chomsky been a reliable source in any field except linguistics 2601:405:4A80:B950:15F4:5350:DC7D:E8B8 (talk) 20:05, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Chomsky has been a well-informed, widely read, and much-cited critic of the United States for several decades, in addition to his foundational work in modern linguistics. This article relies on Chomsky for his pointed opinions and analysis of patterns of facts, not as an objective historian. Chomsky's critics are included in the article at length; they mostly disagree not over whether or not a given event happened, but which events are important, their morality, what pattern of behavior they add up to and how they compare to other countries. -- Beland (talk) 09:04, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

2026 ICE occupation of MN ("Operation Metro Surge")

edit

How much should we expand on descriptions of the current ICE occupation of MN ("Operation Metro Surge") as state terrorism, more specifically but not only related to the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in this US and state terrorism article and in State violence? I'm sure there's more we could say about this, what do others think? Nextseagrass (talk) 23:46, 26 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

It should be significantly larger than what it is now. I think we should link to the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good as examples of a larger pattern of terroristic behavior by ICE agents towards American citizen critics of their department. The article should discuss how recent lies by high level government officials have contributed to a breakdown in trust of long-trusted institutions like the military. Per the main article on state terrorism: "Governments that are accused of using state terrorism may justify their actions as efforts to combat internal dissent, suppress insurgencies, or maintain national security." Has the Trump administration used any of the typical excuses? Dimadick (talk) 11:33, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Not at all, as terrorism is a crime, and none of these actions have been prosecuted. At best we should have a small section (one or two lines) saying "some in the media Ect". Slatersteven (talk) 11:21, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Slatersteven, what the heck are you talking about? State terrorism "is terrorism conducted by a state against its own citizens".[1][2] Who is going to prosecute the crime, the government which performed it? "Simon Taylor provides a definition of state terrorism as "state agents using threats or acts of violence against civilians, marked by a callous indifference to human life, to instill fear in a community beyond the initial victim for the purpose of preventing a change or challenge to the status quo."[3]" Dimadick (talk) 11:42, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is why we can have a small section on the allegations, but it shouldn't take up too much space. Slatersteven (talk) 16:14, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
