Tana River (Finland)

edit

Interesting progression: Tana River Tana River (Finnland) Tana River (Finland)

Since it is called the Tana in Norwegian but the Tenojoki in Finland one might infer that the person cleaning these links up mistook the county of Finnmark in Norway for Finland. Not surprising; more than one person has made that misread.

Lacking any load outcry, I intend to change this to Tana River (Norway) for the pure logic of it.

More additions (?) and a few remarks

edit

Longest suspension bridge in Norway??? Doesn't make sense, a lot of bridges crossing fjords are much longer.

Tana, to my knowledge, is the most productive salmon river in western Europe, and possibly in Europe (not quite sure about the large Siberian rivers). The river delta is large, one of the largest in Western Europe. This is one of the few rivers in Norway which actually might be called a "mighty river" as it is very wide along large parts of its course. A notable feature is the fact that the ice melts earlier in the southern part, while the lower, northern part of the river is still locked by the ice, thus the ice scurves the lowland near the river in spring, making the river course wider. The river valley around Tana (and its tributary, Karasjohka) is covered with pine and some birch forests, and are thus a lot more lush than the mostly barren Finnmark plateau. There are also several eastern plants common in Siberia, like the siberian garlic. Should something of this be mentioned in the article? Orcaborealis 11:03, 10 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rename

This seems like a strange name format to me, given that we also have Tana, Norway. Shouldn't the word "river" be included somehow? - Themightyquill (talk) 14:10, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Tana (Norway)Tana (Finland and Norway) – This is an international river located in Norway and Finland. However, I'm unsure about the appropriate naming convention for the disambiguator in this case; compare it to examples like Arun River (China–Nepal), Milk River (Alberta–Montana), New River (Mexico–United States), Manso River (Argentina and Chile), San Miguel River (Ecuador and Peru), Torne (Finnish and Swedish river). 87.95.200.153 (talk) 17:57, 28 December 2024 (UTC)  Relisting. Reading Beans, Duke of Rivia 20:44, 4 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Support. There are a couple of articles with the name format "X River" in the Category:Rivers of Norway, but the general rule is to not include "River" in the title. In Category:Rivers of Finland, no other article has such title. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 03:26, 19 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
