Tāmraśāṭīya is not the mere origin of Theravāda
editYes, Tāmraśāṭīya do plays a significant part in shaping "modern" Theravāda, but it is not the mere origin of Theravāda. I refer to the Kathāvatthu that is attributed to "Vibhajjavāda", that is also "Theravāda" (it is widely accepted that Theravāda is the descendant of Vibhajjavāda), and Vibhajjavāda has existed in India even before it spreads to Sri Lanka.
