editGood afternoon,
As part of a college course, I am suppose to make improvements to this article. Currently, the lack of citations or references is troublesome, and the distinction made between various synthetic viruses is not accurate to modern production methods. I would like to restructure the article, incorporate the old material, and present it in a more holistic and informative ways. I believe the two current sections could be changed to "Constructing De novo Synthetic Viruses" and "Applications for Synthetic Virology." While incorporating the connection to other articles and retaining information (like the Polio virus and bacteriophage), I hope not to replace but rather to update this article. The prose for the proposed sections can be found in my sandbox for perusal.
If anyone is viewing this article, or has any comments/suggestions for improvements, please let me know.

editHow could someone have written an article on this subject, but neglected to say when this technique was first developed, and mention some of the first successful experiments in the field of synthetic virology? There's also no mention of gain-of-function research, nor a single word about the fact that the SARS-CoV-2 may have been created by means of synthetic virology? 98.123.38.211 (talk) 20:01, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
