Update product list?

On behalf of Synaptics, we would like to update this article to ensure that it’s accurate and impartial. We will only first update the product names in the sidebar. Hi! I work for a communications agency that represents Synaptics. I have many, many proposed updates to this article, focused on adding more secondary sources, removing advertising-esque language, fleshing out the company history, and creating a more accurate picture of what the company does. Instead of itemizing all the suggestions, I'm taking a new approach: I've mocked up my proposed new version of the article here, with all new content highlighted and all removed content struck through. A clean version of the same mockup is here. The only difference is that the logo is absent from both mockups, since logos aren't permitted in sandbox space, but the logo in the current article is correct and should be retained. I think my edits are self-explanatory and should, hopefully, be straightforward to review and/or implement. Synaptics request: a few quick updates

Hi, I'm a Synaptics employee and here as a representative of the company making requests for this page. As I look into the overall page and how to best help improve information, I've spotted a few details that can be quickly updated:

1. In December, a Wikipedia user kindly updated the financials in the infobox table, but it looks like there's a small error:

• Operating income should be $147m for 2021, per the annual report and this was an increase vs. 2020 (I think the user accidentally entered the operating expenses amount here)

2. Also in the infobox table, the number of employees can be brought up-to-date, also using the annual report that the user added as a reference in December:

• Total employees was 1,463 in June 2021

3. At the end of History, there is no reference in line for the sentence "In August 2019, the board of directors appointed Michael Hurlston as the new CEO."

Synaptics request: Help with warning tags

Hi, I'm a Synaptics employee and here as a representative of the company making requests for this page. In my first post, I mentioned that I'm looking into overall improvements needed for the page, to do this, it feels like the best way to approach this to help Wikipedia is to find ways to fix the content based on the warnings on the page. The problem I'm running into is that the user who added the tags has been blocked and from what I understand, was part of a sockpuppet ring that was making undisclosed conflict of interest edits. They were blocked not long after the tags were added to the Synaptics page. I'm unsure what happens in this type of situation, whether their edits and tags they added are considered legitimate or not.

My request for editors is: can you glance over the page and see if the tags could actually be removed or if there are things you see that need to be fixed?

If any of the flags does still apply, it would be very helpful to get any pointers on specific items or areas of the page that need attention.

In full disclosure, because one of the flags is about paid contributions: Synaptics is committed to following Wikipedia's rules about conflict of interest. Our involvement as a company on this page has been transparent, using Talk requests, as you can see above.

Synaptics request: History

Hi, I'm a Synaptics employee and here as a representative of the company making requests for this page. For a while, I've been working on some edits to the History information on the page and I have some updates for editors to review. I noticed that an editor has fairly recently made some trims and other edits that resolved the warning tag on the page. There are still some areas where the History can be improved to make sure it is properly sourced, wording is clear, and to add in some of the recent milestones.

The edits I've made to the current History are:

• Made a few edits throughout to help make the wording clearer and non-promotional, removing excessive detail (e.g. specific product names)
• Rewriting the start of the second paragraph. The source used in the live page does not mention Synaptics and does not draw the connection between issues with developing laptops and the Synaptics' founders' decision to develop a touchpad. I have also clarified what was "world's first" about the touchpad, based on sourcing.
• Moved the sentence about Synaptics finding ways to integrate its technology with other products based on appropriate chronology, and added a source
• Added a sentence about the shift in the company's business towards IoT devices
• Added a sentence about its acquisition of DisplayLink in 2020
• Added a short paragraph about expansion of IoT focus through acquisitions of Broadcom's wireless IoT business and DSP Group in 2020 and 2021

Synaptics request: Industry alliances

Hi, I'm a Synaptics employee and here as a representative of the company making requests for this page. I want to ask editors about a section of the page that doesn't seem relevant or typical to Wikipedia.

The one-line section for Industry alliances is confusing, outdated, and doesn't give an accurate picture of the industry organizations that Synaptics has ties to. It also seems like it is lacking context. Since I haven't seen similar sections in other company pages, I'm wondering if it could just be deleted? If the details are important to keep, could they be moved into History?

If I can share any other information to help review and make this change, please let me know.

Synaptics request: Products

Hi, I'm a Synaptics employee and here as a representative of the company making requests for this page. While editors are continuing to consider my request above, I wanted to offer a new request focusing on the Technology and Products information on the page. That information has not been updated for some time and it does not feel as encyclopedic as it could be, and the sourcing is not all reliable. The Technology section is so short and it does not seem necessary to have a whole separate section for those few details.

Through this link to a page in my user space, you can see the Products that I'm proposing: User:Sheryl_at_Synaptics/Synaptics_Products

Unlike my request for the History, for the Products I felt it would be best to start over. The current section is reliant on Synaptics sources (our website, press releases etc.) and is very specific about the products, so much so that it is completely outdated. This new Products:

• Would replace the current Technology and Products, providing a full overview of Synaptics' technology and product areas
• Provides more of a high-level view of Synaptics' product types rather than listing specific named products as the current content does
• Adds mention of newer products, added more recently through innovation and/or acquisitions. For example, DisplayLink
• Provides reliable secondary sourcing for all information

Hi @Sheryl at Synaptics. First off, I don't usually work on company articles. I like to be helpful but I've had some bad recent experiences providing help to COI editors. Hi, I'm a Synaptics employee and here as a representative of the company making requests for this page. It's been a while since I posted the CEO request above, so I wanted to bring that back for editors to consider and provide some additional sourcing. Also I've spotted some updates that would help with readability of Products, as well as a small addition to note Synaptics platforms that have launched in the last couple of years.

1. Can the Leadership section be updated to include the interim CEO (to be listed between Michael Hurlston and Rahul Patel), as well as adding a source to confirm his tenure and Rahul Patel's appointment?

2. The Products and services section has been updated by editors over the last couple of years, and it reads confusingly since information is not chronological and feels unorganized. If it makes sense to editors, could this be put into chronological order? I've provided a draft below, if that helps. Synaptics originally focused on developing touch technology products and later expanded into IoT technology. In 1992, Synaptics introduced a chip designed to read magnetic characters on checks, notable for its higher accuracy and speed in handling poorly printed text compared to conventional technologies. The chip produced by Synaptics I-1000 was used in the Gemstone Onyx check reader of Verifone.

Synaptics continues to develop laptop computer touchpads and fingerprint biometric technology, and other types of touch sensors and display drivers. It has also developed sensors for multiple parameters, including temperature, magnetic, capacitive, and inductive sensors that can be integrated into devices such as video game controllers, wearable devices such as earbuds. In 2016, Synaptics developed the FS9100, a fingerprint sensor that can function accurately beneath up to one millimeter of glass, making it easier to integrate under a device's display.

In the automotive industry, Synaptics has developed technology that enables drivers to adjust heating controls on touch screens while wearing thick gloves in freezing temperatures. In September 2018, the company began testing fingerprint technology in cars. This biometric system allows vehicle owners to personalize settings such as music preferences, seat adjustments, navigation options, and temperature settings based on fingerprint recognition. It also enables parents to implement geofencing limits to control where and how far teenage drivers can travel.

Its connectivity products include wireless connectivity, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth products, and technology such as its wireless device communications protocol, Matter, which enables devices to operate together regardless of their different wireless interfaces. Synaptics acquired DisplayLink in 2020, adding that company's hardware technology for docking stations and video conferencing, and software for graphics connectivity to its products. It also develops wired connection products such as converters for USB Type-C to HDMI or DisplayPort, for high resolution video display.

Synaptics is also the developer of IronVeil, a technology that allows peripheral manufacturers to incorporate fingerprint recognition into devices such as mice, keyboards, and other peripherals compatible with Windows 10. IronVeil is a small embedded sensor measuring 0.15 by 0.39 inches, designed to authenticate users within 180 milliseconds.

Synaptics develops a variety of types of chips, including low-power edge AI processors and system-on-chip (SoC) technology for devices, such as smart home wireless devices, headsets, and for graphics connectivity for video displays. It develops and markets sound processing chips for voice recognition, used in voice controlled devices, including far-field voice DSPs.

In addition to its processors, it also develops display driver IC chips for technology such as VR headsets.

As of 2024, Synaptics develops and markets products for connectivity, sensing, and processing, as well as touch and display drivers, focused on the IoT market. In addition to developing developing enterprise workspace technology such as docking stations. Synaptics' technology is used in devices including PCs, wearables, drones, gaming systems, media systems, cars, industrial security and monitoring equipment, and virtual reality headsets.

Synaptics request: Products

Hi, as I mentioned above, I'm a Synaptics employee here representing the company making requests for this page. Based on new media coverage of Synaptics' Coralboard platform, I'd like to suggest a small addition to the Products section.

The following could be added to the very end of the Products section, if approved:

• In 2026, the company launched its Coralboard development platform, an edge AI hardware platform that it developed in collaboration with Google. The platform combines Synaptics' Astra AI hardware, including neural processing units (NPU), with Google's Coral NPU technology. The platform is intended to support AI applications that use multiple types of data on low-power devices and perform inference in real time.
