Peer review

edit

I've listed this article for peer review because I am seeking to promote this article to GA status. I've been slowly working on this previously-lackluster page, as part of a general goal to improve documentation of the Splatoon series, over the course of a few days, and any advice on how to enhance prose, clarity, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, TheBrickGraphic (talk) 15:09, 11 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

@TheBrickGraphic: After a quick skim, I think this article is ready for GAN. Ref 1 and 11 are the same ref and can be merged. Other then that, everything is cited to reliable sources and all the information I would expect from a GA is in the article. Z1720 (talk) 04:07, 27 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Ah, dunno how I missed the refs thing, just fixed it now. Thanks for the comment! TheBrickGraphic (talk) 22:14, 27 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

I've been seeing more Splatoon articles get nominated for good article status, and I missed out on reviewing Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion, so I'll handle the review for this one!

GA criteria

edit

Last updated: 21:21, 13 May 2026 (UTC) by Barbara (WVS)

See what the criteria are and what they are not

1) Well-written

1a) the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct
1b) it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation

2) Verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check

2a) it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline
2b) reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose)
2c) it contains no original research
2d) it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism
According to Earwig, there is a 9.1% similarity. Violation unlikely.

3) Broad in its coverage

3a) it addresses the main aspects of the topic
3b) it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style)

4) Neutral:

4) Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each

5) Stable:

5) Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute

6) Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio

6a) media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content
6b) media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions

Overall: Pass

Sources

edit
  • According to WP:VG/S, God is a Geek and Gaming Trend are not reliable sources. If another source covers the character's dialogue for the reception, consider adding that source instead, otherwise the sentence should be removed.
    •  Done. Removed both sources. There are two other sources I found that do mention the dialogue, but they do so more in passing and don't provide critical commentary on it. A shame, but it's not super important to mention either way. TheBrickGraphic (talk)
  • What is the reliability of NookGaming? I see there was a discussion for it, but I'm unsure if there was a consensus for the reliability of their reviews. It seems like a good quality source at least.
    • Their website contains outlined "Editorial Policy" and "About Us" pages that list their ethical guidelines, stance against generative AI, disclosure of review copy provision, etc. The "About Us" page mentions that many of their reviewers have "worked on games, some are highly educated in other areas, and some work in professional positions", and have a strict evaluation process. They don't state which positions exactly, and have no dedicated "Reviewers" section, but as an organization they do seem to care about being accurate and reliable. Then again, I'm not exactly an expert, and maybe this isn't completely sufficient for Wikipedia, but I perceive it as leaning-on reliable. TheBrickGraphic (talk) 23:13, 1 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Since Kadokawa is used as a primary source for the publishing of BancalaWalker and OrderTune, should it be mentioned that they published these items?
  • The source published by "Checkpoint" should be named "Checkpoint Gaming".
    •  Done.
  • Ref. 20 and 24 are both from OpenCritic, and should be combined.
    •  Done.

Prose

edit

Lead

Gameplay

  • "an evolved humanoid octopus, named Agent 8". A comma is not needed after octopus.
    •  Done.
  • "Palettes" are capitalized in this section but lowercase in the Plot section. Is this intentional?
    • I replaced the lowercase "palette" with uppercase "Palette" in all instances. There being different cases wasn't intentional. If I remember correctly "Palette" was the version used in the game itself, so that one's probably best anyway. checkY TheBrickGraphic (talk) 02:21, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Should it be mentioned that Membux is a type of in-game currency?
  • What does the Pearl Drone do as an ally? For example, the development states they allow for "mid-air gliding", which seems like an important gameplay mechanic.

Plot

  • Mention that Splatsville is the hub world from Splatoon.
  • Since the first 10 levels being a "tutorial" was specifically mentioned, change the following opening sentence to "After freeing Marina in the tutorial..."
    •  Done.
  • Instead of including a long parathases for "Pearl (who is now back to normal, and can freely change back into a drone)", consider placing their transformation before this sentence. This way, the following sentence can be cleaner: "Marina explains to Agent 8, Pearl, and Acht...".
    •  Done.
  • Place a comma after "Inkopolis, Splatsville, and the entire world".
    •  Done.

Development

  • Single-word quotes shouldn't be used in general. Remove quotes from "order" and "chaos".
    •  Done.
  • Make sure you are not switching between date formats. Choose between either September 10, 2024 or 10 September 2024 for all release dates.

Reception

  • Quotes around "generally favorable" and "strong" are not needed.
    •  Done.
  • TouchArcade is listed in the infobox for reviews, but is not included in the section. If you're looking for a place to put it, the source mentions the quality music.
    •  Done.
