Proposed corrections for accuracy (COI disclosure)
editHi editors — I’m associated with the Southern Utah News in Kanab, Utah. Because of that connection, I’m not editing the article directly and am instead proposing the following sourced corrections for your review per WP:COI.
1) Update ownership / publisher (current info is out of date)
Proposed change (infobox + lead):

Managing Editor: Brooke Knighton
Remove the outdated “Megan and Neal Brown / Publisher: Megan Brown / Editor: Neal Brown” entries.

2) Keep the 1953 foundation for the current title, but clarify the lineage & predecessors
Rationale: The paper has been published under the Southern Utah News name since 1953, succeeding the Kane County Standard (first published in 1929). There was also an earlier Kanab paper, the Kane County Independent, publishing in 1912. The present article omits that earlier title, which gives readers an incomplete sense of the local newspaper history.

Southern Utah News is a weekly newspaper in Kanab, Utah. It has run continuously under the Southern Utah News name since 1953, when it succeeded the Kane County Standard (established 1929). Earlier Kanab titles included the Kane County Independent (published in 1912).
Notes on sourcing:
The Online Books Page records the Standard’s start in 1929 and name change to Southern Utah News in *1953.
Utah Digital Newspapers shows issues of Kane County Standard beginning in 1929 and issues of Kane County Independent in 1912 (demonstrating an earlier local paper in Kanab).
The article already cites Chronicling America for Standard/SUN; that’s consistent, though the LoC links can be touchy to fetch. Keeping those refs is fine.
3) Optional cleanups
If no current, independent source supports the “circulation 1,500” figure, consider removing it or tagging with a current citation. (I don’t have a current third-party source for circulation outside of my own subscription records)
Keep the existing reliable secondary sources (e.g., Insiders’ Guide to Southwestern Utah, Ulrich’s) and add the specific UDN and Online Books Page citations above for verifiability.

- Thank you so much for working on this, Eric! I have the purchase & sale agreement from the Browns (Golden Media News Corp) selling to Andy Gant (Gant Co LLC) in July 2022, as well as the purchase & sale agreement of Andy Gant (Gant Co LLC) selling to Don Jennings (me/Uzona Media LLC) in July 2025. When Andy bought the paper in 2022 he elevated his son Ty to editor and Brooke Knighton to publisher. I have a PDF of the SUN issue with a story covering those changes (7/21/2022). When I bought the paper in 2025 I took over as publisher and Brooke became Managing Editor. The SUN covered that in its 7/3/25 issue ( I have that PDF as well). Neal Brown is still in the info box, though he's no longer affiliated with the SUN. I know this is a lot of info - thanks for being patient. What's the best way to get you what you need?
