Merged articles
editI don't necessarily object to the merger of all the separate park articles to this one, but a change of that magnitude should absolutely have been discussed first. In particular, it's worth noting that each of the parks has its own distinct entry in the heritage listings and therefore they are independently notable in their own right. I'm not entirely sure what the justification for the merge is/was.
I'm also conscious this article is less than the sum of its parts - i.e. it's shorter than the individual park articles combined. Presumably that's to remove a bit of repetition but what assurances can be given that no other content was deleted in the process? WaggersTALK 15:02, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- As there has been no response, I intend to revert the merge at some point in the next few days. WaggersTALK 16:16, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
- Just to correct the record, it was West park that had a previous article, not East park. For some reason, it had three separate article for that one park - they all now link here. Kpahijialmleisp (talk) 10:20, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- I object to the division of this article. For the record these articles were not merged. The parks never had their own distinct articles, with the exception of East Park. Resultantly, no information was lost or 'trimmed down'.
- The justification for having one cohesive article is because the parks act as one park. They are registered on Heritage Parks register as one park. The City Council website also treats them as subsets within a collection.
- To summarise, this article was created to replace a single article for East Park. No information was deleted (as can be seen through the article edit). I Object to separating of this article as the parks act as one collection. I also do not believe they justify their own articles, especially considering this article is not significant in detail. - You say "it had three separate article (sic) for that one park" - what were the other two articles?
- I genuinely thought we had articles for the other parks too. I suspect I was getting confused with the Commons categories where the parks (rightly) have their own category each: commons:Category:Parks_in_Southampton.
- I believe there will, in time, be sufficient content for each of the parks to have its own article but I'm happy to concede that we're perhaps not quite there yet and a summary style might work best for now. WaggersTALK 14:14, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- I do agree that once this page becomes too long it should be broken up. If you look into the page Info tab and look on 'what links here', it shows the three pages that were formally used. Kpahijialmleisp (talk) 17:05, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
