Education

edit

There is lot of misleading information is Shaktikanta Das's education details. 1 week courses are mentioned. Should they even be mentioned in education details? If mentioned, shouldn't we give actual nature of the courses. Link for his service sheet- https://supremo.nic.in/ERSheetHtml.aspx?OffIDErhtml=14205&PageId= INFO  Preceding unsigned comment added by Toi2324 (talkcontribs) 17:50, 15 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Toi2324, hi! First, welcome to Wikipedia; hopefully you adjudicate this to be a place to stay! Now, on to your queries, yes, whilst I do not fully agree with you, I think the nature of the courses Das took should be mentioned in detail.
Notwithstanding that, I think these courses do merit a mention in the article; not in the infobox ('|alma_mater' parameter) or categories (x university/college alumni), though, but certainly a mention in the body is more than warranted.
As far as the nature of courses goes, I believe the advanced financial management course is a one-year one, whereas, other courses are of varying lengths per the 'Year' sub-section in the 'In-Service Training Details' section of Das' executive record sheet (the link you cited) maintained by the Department of Personnel and Training of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions of the Government of India.
Pinging @Bharat.varsh: who added the details of Das' in-service trainings to the article to explain his or her rationale.
Do not be afraid in replying if you've got any query/ies left. Regards, SshibumXZ (talk · contribs). 19:01, 15 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Also, @Toi2324: I added a section to your comment(s); hope you do not mind! Regards, SshibumXZ (talk · contribs). 19:04, 15 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • @SshibumXZ: : In the article, you can see that a lot of phrases are colored in red like "Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society", "Department of Economic Affairs", "Department of Expenditure", "S. S. Mundra" and "deputy governor".
  • This indicates that no corresponding article exists by that name but it's linked to a page that doesn't exist. Instead of writing [[Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society]] why can't we simply write: Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society
  • Red colored phrases can mislead readers. So, we must remove the "[[ ]]" from the phrases. Also there should be the word "the" in sentence "...appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of India by ACC on..."
  • Thank you!  Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.41.154.249 (talk) 19:19, 15 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi! I have at least followed your edit request in spirit, if not letter.
Now, those red-coloured links are called 'red links' and are not entirely bad, yes, they only appear when some term on which an article does not exist is 'wikilinked', but, they coloured red for exactly that  to warn the user that at the moment an article on the said term does not exist. All the red-linked terms have potential and will turn blue once an article on them is created; it will be beneficial when articles on the said subjects are created. Hence, red-links do very little harm and can do a world of good.
For now, I have redirected 'Department of Economic Affairs' (well, 'Department of Economic Affairs (India)') and 'Department of Expenditure' to Ministry of Finance (India).
Also, I have got to say, for an inexperienced IP your grasp of Wikipedia is quite, so much so, you seem to understand the use of <nowiki> tags; I am kind of impressed and would request you to either create a Wikipedia account or log-in to your existing Wikipedia account. Dear, SshibumXZ look at service sheet. It is not 1 year course. It is clearly written in top of rightmost column- "Duration(Weeks) .Check this tweet for screenshot- https://twitter.com/nikhilnarayanan/status/1073223438066696198  Preceding unsigned comment added by Toi2324 (talkcontribs) 17:11, 16 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Defamatory statement by Subramanium Swamy

edit

On appointment of Shaktikant Das, Sumbramanium Swamy called him corrupt, without showing any material proof. Aren't the mention of such defamatory statement on this page, against the spirit of Wikipedia? We need to have neutral stance on the case of responses on Shaktikant Das's appointment. Thanks! One note regarding the sources, if you feel that any source(s) for a statement are not reliable, please note that here. This might be obvious, but noting since there are sources for a given thing from many media outlets, and I had removed some of them due to possible Wikipedia:Citation overkill issues. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 09:29, 11 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Quick note regarding copyvio detector. The big number is only due to the list of previous positions held, I think that should not be a problem for copyvio as it cannot be paraphrased. If I am wrong in this aspect, please suggest any other solution as I am not aware of how to fix this (first GA). Thanks! :) ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 12:26, 11 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Criterion 1

edit
  • "Economic Affairs Secretary, Revenue Secretary, Fertilizers Secretary" please add "and the".
    •  Done
  • "IMF, G20, BRICS, SAARC, etc" to "IMF, G20, BIRCS, and SAARC." The text says, "like the", you do not have to add "etc."
    •  Done
  • ".[6] and then" why is there a period?
    •  Done changed into a comma.
  • "Prime Minister-led Prime Minister-led" duplicated.
    •  Done
  • "16 June 2014 and demitted the office" this makes it feel like his term started and ended on the same day.
    •  Done, converted to His tenure started on June 16, 2014, and concluded on August 31, 2015.
  • "28 May 2017," remove comma.
    •  Done
  • The first paragraph of the Economic Affairs secretary section seems too long.
  • "Goods and Services Tax (India)" remove "(India)".
    •  Done
  • The Finance Commission section probably needs to be merged to another section.
  • "Gaurav Shah" this name is spelled wrong.
    •  Done
  • "Principal Secretary - 2" "2"?
    •  Done
  • Can you link "basis points"?
  • "digital payments" to "digital payment".
  • Same for "retail payments".
    •  Done

Criterion 2

edit
  • Why is there citations in the lead? See WP:LEADCITE Because the lead usually repeats information that is in the body, editors should balance the desire to avoid redundant citations in the lead with the desire to aid readers in locating sources for challengeable material. Since the information in the lead is not in the body, why is it not added there?
    •  Done
  • Source 6 seems too primary. Please remove this and try to find another reliable source.
    •  Done Replaced with one from Nagaland tribune.
  • Source 7 is a dead link for me.
    •  Done Changed status to dead.
  • Add the date of source 9.
    •  Done
  • There seems to be something wrong with source 10.
    •  Done It is a kind of a biography of the subject. Removed since the content is present in other sources.
  • Add the website for source 11.
    •  Done
  • Can you please spread sources 5, 7, and 13 to their respective sentences?
Just ignore the comment, I do not think it is much of an issue. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter") 00:15, 13 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • There are too much citations for the first sentence of "Economic Affairs Secretary" section.
    •  Done
  • "Das was appointed Union Economic Affairs Secretary by the ACC in August 2014" I do not see this in the sentences.
    •  Done It is 2015, corrected. See the supremo source and date in the New Indian Express article
  • I think you are overciting a large part of the "Finance Commission" section.
    •  Done Reduced to one per sentence.
  • "Das' appointment as RBI governor received mostly positive responses" this sentence is cited too much.
    •  Done
  • Add the authors of source 53.
    •  Done
  • I did not find 115 basis points in source 55.
    •  Done: Updated refs

Criterion 3

edit
  • "1980-batch" is this important enough to add to the lead?
    •  Done
  • He is an important figure in Indian politics, isn't there any information on how his parents raised him, his childhood, and other things through interviews?
    • No, he has drawn a clear line between personal and professional life. No names/info about family, children or other childhood. Only info I found is his schooling in Bhubaneswar, which is already mentioned. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 07:58, 16 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • According to this source, he has many other positions. Why are they not included?
    • Most of them are already included. The starting 5-ish positions have no outside coverage, so I do not think it is of any use mentioning them. Media has only covered the later central govt and high-profile Tamil Nadu govt positions. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 07:58, 16 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • In the "Reactions" section, is there reactions from the Indian public.

The Rest of the Criteria

edit
  • Criterion 5: This looks stable enough for GA.
  • Criterion 6: The article is illustrated well with nice captions. I only have one issue:
  • Where is the main image taken and when was it taken?
    •  Added caption

There are a lot of issues in this medium-sized article. Since this is your first GAN, I will give you 14 days to fix these issues (or even more if you would like). I will continue the review a bit later. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter") 02:48, 12 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Overall: Article recently improved, long enough, sourced, and neutral. Picture free, used in article, and unusually striking for a simple portrait. QPQ not needed. Hook cited and interesting—a historian in charge of the central bank is not what I'd expect from a country so renowned (or perhaps notorious?) for its STEM geniuses, and judging by the memes mentioned, Indians felt similar! ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 13:42, 16 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks User:AirshipJungleman29! Well, he had ~40 years experience in the field before becoming the governor, so it is fair I guess. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:42, 17 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

    edit

The picture Shaktikanta Das with Arun Jaitley is coming up properly. Initially, the wiki markup wasn't formatted properly and I mistakenly assumed, it was lack of picture. Phoe6 (talk) 12:42, 8 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
