Merger of Scouting in French Guiana

edit

The article mentioned above is a rough translation of a French article that is almost a complete duplicate of information in this article. I suggest a merger, with Scouting in French Guiana becoming a redirect, and perhaps a mention of French Guiana's program here, provided more information can be found than that which exists in the article at present. Oppose: I started to write the text completly anew. Scouting in French Guiana is not just a part of the Scouts et Guides de France, other French associations are also active. But you are right: the old article was quite bad. --jergen 21:17, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I removed the tab. --jergen 19:10, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

9th Article of the Scout Law

edit

In the Scouts Unitaires de France, the 9th article is "Le scout est économe et prend soin du bien d'autrui" (The scout is sparing and takes care of what is others') and the article given as 9th in this article is the 10th. Is it an omission or is the law in the Scouts de France different ? fr:Utilisateur:Thomasdeniau 10:45, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

It was an omission - perhaps a bad source. Thanks for your remark. --jergen 14:08, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The youngest section is for girls and boys between 6 and 8. It's called "farandoles" or "sarabandes" depending from the structure: The first ar organised by Scout Leaders, the second by parents. --jergen 11:41, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Outdated and wrong informations : SGdF Law, Oath, emblem and motto

edit

- SGDF MOTTO there is no specific mention in SGDF documentation since its creation in 2004 stating that the official motto of the association is "Toujours prêt"

- SGDF Oath : The text is incorrect. Since December 2021, the common oath for all branches has been:

« Aujourd’hui devant vous, avec l’aide de Dieu et de tous et toutes, je promets de faire de mon mieux pour servir mon prochain, œuvrer selon ma Foi, agir pour un monde meilleur, vivre selon notre Loi, en fraternité avec les scouts et guides du monde. »

Translation :

‘Today, before you, with the help of God and everyone, I promise to do my best to serve my neighbour, work according to my Faith, act for a better world, live according to our Law, in brotherhood with Scouts and Guides around the world.’

Cf --> https://chefscadres.sgdf.fr/lassociation-page/nos-convictions/la-promesse/

Prior to this, the text of the promise differed according to age group.

- The Scout Law displayed is incorrect. The first corresponds to the one introduced by Father Jacques Sevin for the Scouts de France in 1920 (not 1964), and is still the current text for the Scouts Unitaires de France and forms the basis, albeit modified, of the text used by the Scouts d'Europe.

The second text (marked ‘current’) corresponds to the text of the law first used by the Scouts de France from 1964 to 2004, then to the text for the Scouts Guides age group (11-14) from the creation of the Scouts et Guides de France in 2004 until 2022.

From 2004 to 2002, each branch had its own Scout Law text.

Since 2022, the Law has been the same for all branches:

Translation :

"The Guide, the Scout

1. Speaks the truth and acts consistently.

2. Is trustworthy and knows how to trust others.

3. Reaches out to others and builds bonds of friendship with Scouts and Guides around the world.

4. Uses resources wisely.

5. Faces difficulties with optimism.

6. Participates in building a world of justice and peace.

7. Loves and protects Creation.

8. Lives with energy and takes initiative.

9. Welcomes the Good News through actions in service to others.

10. Is responsible for their words, actions and thoughts."

- Emblem : The emblem displayed has never been the emblem of Scouts and Guides of France.

The association has only had two logos since its creation.

The first, between 2004 and 2019, can be found here :

https://fr.scoutwiki.org/Insigne_d'appartenance_des_scouts_et_guides_de_France

It consisted of half a lily and half a clover, referring to the emblems of Scouting and Guiding, against a background of a Jerusalem cross.

The second, since 2019, can be found here : https://sgdf.fr/laventure-par-nature-une-nouvelle-identite-visuelle-pour-les-scouts-et-guides-de-france/

"The logo embodies the three duties of Scouts and Guides, which are common to Scouting and Guiding movements around the world: duty to oneself, spiritual duty and duty to others.

But its meaning remains largely open to interpretation: three tents around a campfire, a scout or guide raising their arms, waves or mountains, scarves, the pioneer chapel in Jambville, a hiking trail marker...These meanings complement each other without excluding one another, allowing each person to interpret it freely and make it their own."

The French version of the page is much more complete, accurate and detailed. Would it be possible to translate it and transcribe it onto this page?
