citation needed
edit"there are likely more Hollywood celebrities in other religious traditions."
What does this mean? Proportionally? Needs citation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kauri0.o (talk • contribs) 01:50, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Indeed, bearing in mind that Scientologists are numbered in the mid-thousands, whereas Jewish and Christian people --- who were born into their respective faiths number in the many millions in America; as are Atheists --- there would have to be more in non-Scientology faiths.

Changed ambiguous categories for celebrity members
editUnder the heading "Notable celebrity members" there were two subheadings "Current" and "Former". This has been ambiguous, according to several edits over a period of time. The subheading choice of "current" seemed to mean currently a scientologist and currently alive. "Former" would seem to mean "ex-scientologist", but in practice included ex-scientologists (Jason Beghe, Paul Haggis), dead but was-still-a-scientologist (Kirstie Alley, Isaac Hayes, Chick Corea), as well as dead and ex-scientologists (Lisa Marie Presley).
I changed the subheadings to "Member" and "Former member", added an explanatory lead sentence under "former members", and put the word "(deceased)" after those who are dead (especially important in the "members" section). ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 17:41, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

Inclusion criteria for notable member section
edit| This section is pinned and will not be automatically archived. |
The notable member section should only include those celebrities that are fairly widely known as Scientologists, and not just widely-known celebrities that happen to also be Scientologists. We already link to List of Scientologists which includes everyone, so the list here should definitely be a much smaller subset.
Since I don't follow celebrities, maybe someone else would be better suited for trimming the list along this criteria. ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 16:05, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
- To further match the tone of the article (Scientology using celebrities as PR), I think we should note what each celebrity-scientologist's "public role" has been. For example, Kelly Preston: Promoted Narconon. (cite Wright's book, pg 196). ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 05:06, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
More:
- Tom Cruise, "Cruise claims that Hubbard's technology helped him overcome dyslexia and that Narconon is the only successful drug rehabilitation program in the world."[78] (Urban p. 143)
- John Travolta, "as early as 1978, presented him with a "Service Award" for his "major contributions in the dissemination of Dianetics and Scientology."[81] and for his dedication to work on and promote the project of the Battlefield Earth movie. (Urban p. 143)
