Replacing the lead images
editThe image used on this page contains an illicit image of inklings from splatoon, which are characters that are 14 years old. Is there any way to report the user who added it and change the image to anything else? Whatever can be done to take down the image is for the best, I feel. ~2025-40178-11 (talk) 08:14, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- pinging @Dabmasterars as the editor who added the illustrations, not to 'report' them as this TA suggested. the choice of images could certainly be improved here. looking at the linked Commons category, the best options I see are Bowsette (Internet famous fan-made character, surprisingly free) and our own mascot Wikipe-tan (the adult version; avoiding as while there is no prohibition per se in using her for pornographic works, it is taboo after she was used in an old version for the article Lolicon). - 1. This is not pornography. No characters are having sex. These images are erotic, not pornographic.
- 2. Child pornography involves real children. The characters depicted on the images are purely fictional.
- 3. The images were already nominated for deletion on Commons but were kept (this was for fan art guideline reasons, but still).
- 4. The "taboo" of using erotic images of Wikipe-tan was set by Jimmy Wales, who erroneously deleted photos of Wikipetan that were later undeleted (1, 2, 3) due to Wales' deletion reason being pretty much "I don't like it", an invalid reason.
- 5. Wikipedia is not censored.
- If you have any more questions, I'll answer them. Note that I'm neither the creator nor the uploader of these images, I only added them due to them fitting the article. Oh, and don't try remove the images without a proper reason, it will get reverted immediately. Dabmasterars [RU/COM] (talk/contribs) 14:27, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Dabmasterars thanks for the response given. though a lot of it is quite not directed at the point I was trying to make.
- re point 1–2: the distinction between child pornography and erotic content involving young fictional characters is not too relevant to me, as the concern raised here would apply either way.
- re point 5 and last sentence: not suggesting to censor but a more suitable replacement (WP:GRATUITOUS). re: for point 4 is not saying that one should avoid solely because of taboo, but laying out my rationale as to avoid a discussion like this from comming up again.
- as such, my proposal would to be replace the current images as outlined above. Juwan 🕊️🌈 15:11, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- Personally, I'd argue that no lead image (as was the case with the Not safe for work article) would be more suitable than the current image. (Frankly I'm surprised that the current image had even survived a deletion request on Commons, but that's a different scenario.) Sugar Tax (talk) 16:38, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
Comment: replaced the thread title to be more be direct to what is being discussed. Juwan 🕊️🌈 15:23, 6 January 2026 (UTC)

- It seems I am a tad late to this matter, I wanted to inform the talk page that I added an image of Wikipe-tan, to the page. Issac I Navarro (talk) 05:29, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
- I agree that Wikipe-tan fits better as an example, though the images need to be separated a bit.
- Also, I just now realized how stupid the original point of discussion is, considering the Splatoon characters are clearly aged up; though I don't think we need these images anymore, as they don't illustrate anything particularly different from regular Rule 34, which is already illustrated twice. - @Issac I Navarro not late at all, thank you very much! Juwan 🕊️🌈 13:01, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
- As seen by the page history I originally included this image. However, used the one in current use, as it seems convey the topic more directly.

.
Hope that I was helpful, Cheers. Issac I Navarro (talk) 15:02, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
