Other info/views

edit

Do you think we should include other information such as those that criticize the World Cup? For example, people recognize how big the event it, but it has turned everything in between it into "friendlies", and everything now is "in preparation for the next world cup". People have also become upset at what has happened to some competitions, in particular, next years Super 14. Also, some people say that it has devalued the 3N, etc etc...I know that there are policies on original research/point-of-view neutrality, but is this type of thing significant/relevent enough to be included somewhere??

Webb Ellis trophy

edit

I originally posted this at William Webb Ellis Cup, but I guess it would be just a relevent here. Anyone, both this article and the sub-trophy article say that "International Rugby Board" is engraved on the trophy. But I dont see how this can be, as the trophy came about in the 80s, and there was no "International Rugby Board", but instead, the "International Rugby FOOTBALL Board", with the name change apparently coming about in the late 90s...so whats the deal with the engravings??

The trophy is currently kept in the Museum of Rugby, London.

edit

I thought that the real trophy was on tour in france? And I was under the impression that the real cup is kept at the IRB hq?

Title should be changed to Men's Rugby World Cup

edit

If you click on the article "Rugby World Cup" you expect to find a neutral article about both Women's and Men's Rugby World Cup. As this article is written, it should be titled "Men's Rugby World Cup", as that is exactly its topic, just like the article "Women's Rugby World Cup" is solely about women's rugby. If anything it needs to be moved to "Rugby UNION World Cup", because there are two codes of rugby, and League started its World Cup 30+ years before Union. FieldOfWheat (talk) 09:11, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
The rugby union world cup is simply called the Rugby World Cup where as the rugby league world cup is known as Rugby League World Cup. If you really want it changed you would need to start a WP:REQMOVE Louis (talk) (contribs) 18:41, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
What on earth are you talking about? There are two World Cups in Rugby. The Rugby Union World Cup and the Rugby League World Cup are two World Cups in two separate codes of the game. The Rugby Union World Cup didn;t get going until 1987. The Rugby League World Cup got going in 1954. The Rugby Union World Cup calls itself the Rugby World Cup but Nazi Germany called itself the Greater German Reich, we don't fawn at the feet of those who are in the wrong. Rugby Union is not 'rugby', it is one of the two codes of rugby, identified by 'rugby league' and 'rugby union'.
@FieldOfWheat it wont let me reply to you directly so please remember to Sign your posts on talk pages with ~~~~, regarding what you said, please read WP:COMMONNAME. If you really belive this page should me moved, weather it is too Rugby Union World Cup, Men's Rugby World Cup or Men's Rugby Union World Cup you will need to start a discussion for this at Wikipedia:Requested moves. I will point you to two previous discussions which both ended in not moved consensus here - Requested move 10 November 2022 and here Requested move 31 October 2023. — Louis (talk) (contribs) 21:26, 7 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
There is no use engaging with this place, because it has biases. It is self-evident that there are two codes of rugby: rugby union and rugby league. They are two different codes with differing popularity across the world; even in England, rugby league is more popular in the north of England, rugby union in the south.
Rugby League has had a World Cup since 1954 and has called it the 'Rugby League World Cup' ever since. Rugby Union has had a World Cup since 1987 and in union's intolerable arrogance has called it the 'Rugby World Cup' ever since.
We should not take tournaments at face value. If I set up a Subbuteo tournament in my bedroom, and declared myself the world football champion on the back of it, it would not render void the Subbuteo World Cup or the Football World Cup.
The Rugby Union World Cup is the Rugby Union World Cup. It is not the Rugby World Cup because there are two principal codes of rugby. FieldOfWheat (talk) 09:39, 12 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Did you read my message at all? You can request the name be changed if you wish. Louis (talk) (contribs) 10:32, 12 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Rugby World Cup is an established competition for rugby unions teams.Rugby league is a niche sport played in a few countries. The will be be no confusion. 156.155.14.38 (talk) 11:25, 5 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Rugby World CupMen's Rugby World Cup – The official name 'Men's Rugby World Cup' is increasingly being used by media and is being used in all promotional materials for the 2027 tournament, as well as being used by wikipedia for its articles. This name is the official and widely used one, and given how the name 'Rugby World Cup' is often used interchangeably for both men's and women's, not changing the title will only lead to confusion.
