Robert Maxwell, 6th Lord Maxwell (c1510 - 1552) Married Beatrix Douglas, a daughter of James Douglas 3rd Earl of Morton Sir John Maxwell (c1512 - 1583) Suo Jure Lord Herries of Terregles Married Agnes Herries daughter of 3rd Lord Herries of Terregles. Margaret Maxwell (Died 1593) Married firstly Archibald Douglas 6th Earl of Angus c1543. Married secondly c1560 Sir William Ballie of Lamington

Natural son [John] Maxwell the ancestor of the Maxwells of Logan. In 1589 King James V wrote to the Pope for a pension to be given to John Maxwell aged 17. This makes the boy's year of birth around 1521. It is unlikely this refers to Sir John Maxwell so is more likely the first name of the illegitimate son of the 5th Lord Maxwell.
