Personal blogs not acceptable as reference source

edit

This is hard for me to do, but in the interest of Wikipedia's credibility, it's necessary. I've had to remove a very long quote attributed to Leonard Starr, since its source was the personal blog of someone named Leif Peng who is not an established, reliable-source news organization or similar.

The Wikipedia policy at "Self-published sources" is very clear on this:

"Anyone can create a website or pay to have a book published, then claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason self-published media, whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, Internet forum postings, tweets etc., are largely not acceptable."

Expanding on the latter point, the footnote reads:

"'Blogs' in this context refers to personal and group blogs. Some newspapers host interactive columns that they call blogs, and these may be acceptable as sources so long as the writers are professionals and the blog is subject to the newspaper's full editorial control."

Leif Peng's blog does not, I'm afraid, fall under that latter category. As credible as the blog may seem, Wikipedia, for good reason cannot allow some amateur blog postings to be used as reference but not others. Where is the line drawn? Wikipedia clearly draws it at the above-linked policy, WP:SPS.

This is a serious policy matter, and if the editor wants to revert the deletion in contradiction of policy, that involves discussion here at the very least. With respect to my fellow editor, -- Tenebrae (talk) 01:47, 11 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Neal Adams

edit

Neal Adams does not himself mention doing work on Rip Kirby, either in Adams' own website's biography, nor in his interviews in The Neal Adams Treasury, nor in his lengthy, multi-part interview here.

The only mention I can find is at a sales site for the retailer Ken Pierce Books, here, from which an uncited sentence in this Wikipedia Rip Kirby article was lifted. Commercial sales sites are disallowed as Wikipedia references, and since Adams himself does not mentions Rip Kirby, and the only source is a retailer who wants to sell Rip Kirby books and does not cite his own source for this information, then this claim does not reach the threshold of encyclopedic veracity. Accordingly, I have removed the Adams claim. -- Tenebrae (talk) 02:03, 11 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Story titles

edit

In the new series of books from IDW many story titles are quite different from the list in the article.

Where are the titles in the list in the article from?

Following are the IDW titles, taken from the books, but some of them can be checked on http://www.comics.org/issue/868402/ Benadikt (talk) 20:02, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Creator?

edit

The two sentences in the lead seem to contradict one other, one saying that Alex Raymond was the creator and the other Alex Prentice. Perhaps one or both should say "co-creator"? JH (talk page) 09:01, 20 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

That was using creator in two different ways, but the wording has been amended. -- Beardo (talk) 16:50, 12 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Writers and artists

edit

There is a section with writers and artists - many of whom are not mentioned elsewhere, and who are unsourced.

They are all given initials. Most of the initials are not used anywhere else that I can see. -- Beardo (talk) 16:52, 12 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
