Notability vs. pupil defect?
editIs RAPD-Marcus Gunn pupil more notable than the PCR technique? If so, perhaps that should be the land page for the abbreviation? Or perhaps this should just go to disambig?--Xris0 (talk) 15:03, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

RAPD → Random amplification of polymorphic DNA – For WP:NATURAL disambiguation from Relative afferent pupillary defect (also known as Marcus Gunn pupil), which gets about twice as many page views and is currently the subject of another RM submitted by me. Also note that sometimes Wikipedia seems to prefer to use spelled-out terms rather than abbreviations even when there is no disambiguation issue, such as for Severe acute respiratory syndrome–related coronavirus and Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Also please note the similar comment on this Talk page from 2012. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:23, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support, WP:TITLEFORMAT, not overwhelmingly known only by the initialism with most sources first introducing the full term. Spelling it out is more accessible to those who don't know the topic well, and is still accessible to those that do. – Thjarkur (talk) 09:20, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Maintenance template removal
editI have edited the RAPD page, expanding content, correcting factual errors, and supporting all statements with suitable references. I therefore removed the maintenance template that requested statements be properly supported. I also replaced an image of a RAPD agarose electrophoretic gel that was corrupted (it had another image overlapped). In fact, I am not sure if that image corresponded to a RAPD profile.
I have preserved the original banner located after "External links". This banner relates to PCR, not RAPD: the 'polymerase', 'optimization' and 'history and people' sections of the banner are different for RAPD and DAF. I think this banner should be deleted and a specific banner constructed for the 'RAPD' and 'DNA amplification fingerprinting' articles. I do not know how to set these banners but I am willing to learn. Any input would be appreciated.
