Header image standards non-conformance

edit

Please see the question posted here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/79786399/does-this-code-indicate-a-mistake-in-wikipedias-example-on-the-qr-code-page

It appears that the image at the top of this page may not technically be a valid QR code. In that case, it should probably be updated in the name of accuracy. Bismurphy (talk) 14:24, 13 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have uploaded a modified file here:
Derived from https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:QR_code_for_mobile_English_Wikipedia.svg with correction for Remainder bits. Modifications done by hand with manual modifying of SVG text format.
I am not sure what the best path for this change is - perhaps it would be ideal to replace the existing file? I do not have permissions to do so, unfortunately. Bismurphy (talk) 16:02, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Too technical

edit

The section on error correction and the description of how the message is encoded is too technical for most readers. It would really benefit from a subject-area expert who could help explain in more comprehensible terms what that error correction method is doing, what kinds of errors it's correcting, where those errors come from, how it corrects the errors, and what the practical result of error correction is for encoding/decoding a message. Following the link to Reed–Solomon error correction doesn't really help, as that article is also very hard to understand for lay readers.

Addition of trademark statement example

edit

Hi User:ウィキの数鉄マニア!

The section you've added about a recommended trademark statement is unnecessary. For the purposes of the article itself, we don't need the exact trademark statement recommended by Denso Wave, as we're already clearly stating that Denso Wave is the trademark and wordmark holder of "QR Code" in the next paragraph of the License section. And for the purposes of including it to show to other people an example of what they should do if they're using the word "QR Code" in a webpage, Wikipedia is not a how-to guide. Information on how exactly to use the QR Code trademark is best left on the Denso Wave website, which is referenced in the section about the trademark.

If you still disagree, I'd be happy to hear what you think.

Apologies for missing this. Vandal was clever and claimed the change was related to the recent m.en changes. Eyesinthefire (talk) 13:52, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Decoding example section has inaccessible content

edit

Decoding example has a significant amount of content as images rather than Wikitext. This is not accessible. While a lot of information is included on the files respective pages, Wikipedia is not a presentation and this content would properly be an article and not presentation slides. Thisisnotatest (talk) 23:06, 9 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, the slide presentation-style example was inaccessible and unsuitable for the article, I've deleted it. I may make an attempt to rewrite it into a text example with supplementary images. I think leaving it with no decoding example for now is better than the slideshow gallery. Eyesinthefire (talk) 01:01, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
