Passport

edit

What is wrong with this photo? Its a photo of passport control. Why do you keep deleting it? It might be old but its still a decent photo.129.127.32.138 (talk) 05:10, 3 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

History of the passport

edit

Back in 2005, this article already had a history section that was later, in 2006, deleted following an instance of completely overlooked vandalism, and never restored. Here's when the section was inserted, and here's when the vandalism began. Useful information can probably be salvaged from the original history section that's missing from the current version of the article. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 21:06, 27 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Passport value

edit

There are at least two different sources for passport values The Passport Index and the Henley Passport Index and they clearly have a difference in opinion regarding passport value. Wikipedia should reach a consensus on which one to use, or perhaps both? It's obvious which one 110.145.11.12 prefers; what say others? Aknip, Apparition11, Zachruff, Divinemomentever, Isaidnoway, Prosnu, Trey Maturin, Discospinster; you've all edited the article relatively recently, any opinion?   Skywatcher68 (talk) 19:27, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

My edit was a revert of the IP deleting the supposedly out-of-date links, I have no idea on this. Aknip (talk) 22:12, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I was reverting obvious WP:NOELBODY spam and thus don’t consider myself involved in any way either. — Trey Maturin 22:52, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Repeated incorrect use of "official" in the lede

edit

"A passport is an official travel document issued by a government.... may also serve as official identification for various domestic purposes.... other types of official documents may serve a similar role to passports...." These and possibly other uses of the word official are not supported by the references, and are especially misleading because of the particular meaning of the term official passport. For an example of the confusion caused, see this question. A better word than official may be formal. Set theorist (talk) 17:49, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

I agree. "Formal" does the work I think "official" was trying to do, without introducing confusion with "official passports." 7d9CBWvAg8U4p3s8 (talk) 21:00, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
