Currently mixed, with both UK/Australian and US spellings. The species has a significant presence in regions with both spelling styles, in USA (Alaska, Hawaii) and Australia, India, etc., so MOS:TIES does not apply. Hard to determine first usage; if 'wader' (vs 'shorebird') is counted as significant, then UK spellings from the start in 2003. Anyone any strong preferences? - MPF (talk) 01:34, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
