Draft picks

edit

There are two points I want to discuss. The first is how traded draft picks are identified. Currently I have them identified by year to be consistent with the other post-pandemic drafts, but five years in and maybe we should consider identifying them by season number? It’s starting to become more common across sources. The other is San Miguel’s second round draft pick. It was traded to NorthPort last season, but it was also traded to Converge in 2022? I've done my digging, but the picks are very unclear and confusing. What if it could actually be “a Season 50 second-round pick owned by SMB” but not originally theirs (e.g., one they got from another team)? “San Miguel’s pick” might just mean “a pick SMB currently owns.” Somewhere between 2022 and early 2025, SMB acquires a different 50th Season 2nd-round pick from another team, which they then sent in the JM Calma trade. That would be the most likely case. After searching, the only pick that fits would be the second-round NorthPort pick that was traded to SMB on September 20, 2022 during the Von Pessumal trade to BGSM. In that case, that pick went back to NP. MarcusAbacus (talk) 03:30, 11 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Could be. Maybe they'll clear this up before the draft. D-Flo27 (talk) 10:24, 11 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yep, we'll just have to wait for the draft. MarcusAbacus (talk) 14:48, 11 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Looks like we got confirmation via this Philippine Star article from Joaquin Henson. "San Miguel's second-round pick" is indeed the one the one that was traded by NorthPort in 2022 and that it is traded back to NP. NorthPort will be picking 16th and Converge will pick 21st.
