Sloop?

edit

Were these craft (described by the article as "effectively a coastal sloop", with "effectively" being a key word) actually sloops or were they patrol boats? It seems that they were not rated as sloops by the RN from what evidence I can find, nor by contemporary periodicals, but rather they were officially rated as 'patrol boats'. It seems, from the very slender, low-freeboard and shallow-draught hull form, without forecastle, that they did not have a traditional sloop hull form either. Would we be better rating them as they were officially rated at the time, and then including the opinion of their being 'effectively coastal sloops' within the article but outside of the title? 31.104.100.34 (talk) 20:57, 21 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

If you have a source that calls them a patrol boat, please provide it. We will not change the name based on your word. Llammakey (talk) 11:40, 22 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Dittmar & Colledge calls the P-class, as well as the PC-class, patrol boats (pp. 98–99).Nigel Ish (talk) 17:35, 22 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
