Accurate date of birth for Our Lady J
editAn edit to this entry on November 19, 2017 changed Our Lady J's year of birth from 1977 to 1985. But according to her own words in the New York Times and Los Angeles Times plus details of her work career, her most probable year of birth is 1977.
From the December 10, 2014 NY Times article:
“It wasn’t until I moved to New York in 2000 that I met trans people and began to see myself in other trans women”
And from the December 11, 2015 LA Times article:
"I think most trans people feel like they’ve come out too late, no matter what age they are. I’ve met 20-year-olds who feel like they’ve come out too late. I was 27 when I came out, and I’m 37 now and feel like I came out way too late." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Orpenn (talk • contribs) 22:19, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
Birth Name?
editWhy is the "born" name not included like it is for the vast majority of people that go by a stage name?
- yeah, even w/o "deadnaming" her, can't we at least get a CURRENT legal name? stage name is clearly a stage name. 2601:18A:807C:1C40:102D:D8E8:C575:E78D (talk) 18:08, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- She recently changed her name to Yona Speidel as part of a conversion to Judaism. Article updated accordingly. Funcrunch (talk) 20:57, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Requested move: Our Lady J → Yona Speidel
editI would like to request moving this page from "Our Lady J" to "Yona Speidel."
Recent reliable sources report that she officially changed her name to Yona Speidel following her conversion to Judaism and is now publicly using that name.
Sources:
- Variety - https://variety.com/2026/tv/columns/our-lady-j-converted-jewish-harder-coming-out-trans-1236746364/
The current title appears to no longer reflect the subject's primary name. ~2026-21234-39 (talk) 18:12, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
