Review

edit

Hi Kate, I just made a few small edits on your article. I think you have a good structure and a very neutral tone overall. Maybe you could add a photo of their logo if you can get it up without licensing issues? -Glutenffrida (talk) 15:16, 12 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kate, looking good, I made a few small tweaks and recommend:

  • as you mentioned, adding their logo;
  • adding categories;
  • the "Organizational Structure & Acquisition Timeline" section smells a little jargony/promotional. Unfortunately, I can't recommend anything specific, but I wanted to give you a heads-up given people tend to be sensitive to that. -Reagle (talk) 21:28, 12 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Update to Infobox

edit

Hello! My name is Barbara and I work for UnitedHealth Group. I'm here on Wikipedia to submit edit requests and suggest improvements to articles related to the company. I've been working with editors at Talk:UnitedHealth Group, but in this case I'd like to submit a request to add information to the infobox for our Optum subsidiary.

Addition Revenues

Would editors consider adding revenue information as stated in our 2023 10-K? Following is the addition I’m proposing:

  • Revenue $226.6 billion (2023)
Addition Optum CEO

Per UnitedHealth Group Heather Cianfrocco has been appointed CEO of Optum. Following is the addition I’m proposing to the Key people section in the infobox:

  • Heather Cianfrocco (CEO, Optum)

Thank you for making these updates to the Optum infobox! Barbara at UHG (talk) 20:29, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Addition to Leadership section

edit

A recent request I submitted to add Heather Cianfrocco, CEO, to the infobox in this article was completed. I would now like to request that Heather also be added to the Leadership listing in the History section. Following is the update I am proposing:

  • Apr. 2024: Heather Cianfrocco named CEO of Optum.[1]

Thank you for making this update! Barbara at UHG (talk) 18:29, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Done though note that this entire section format is kind of a mess and it would be better rewritten to remove the WP:PROSELINE. Rusalkii (talk) 23:28, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Business listing in History section

edit

On behalf of Optum, I'd like to request a correction to the list of Optum businesses in the History section, first paragraph under Organization. The text says Optum has the following four businesses: OptumRx, OptumHealth, OptumInsight and Genoa Healthcare.

Per the cited source,[1] Optum has three businesses: OptumRx, OptumHealth and OptumInsight.

Genoa Healthcare was acquired by OptumRx and is part of that business unit. It is not a fourth Optum business unit.

Additional support confirming Optum's three business units is available in the 2023 10-K.

As a result, the first sentence under Organization should read:

  • Optum's three businesses, OptumRx, OptumHealth and OptumInsight focus on five core capabilities: data and analytics, pharmacy care services, population health, healthcare delivery and healthcare operations.

Thanks for making this correction! Barbara at UHG (talk) 20:43, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Citation linking to a page not found

edit

On behalf of Optum, I'd like to request a correction to a citation that goes to a source that shows a page not found.

The citation pertains to the following text located in the second paragraph at the top of the page: Optum was formed as a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group in 2011 by merging UnitedHealth Group’s existing pharmacy and care delivery services into the single Optum brand, comprising three main businesses: OptumHealth, OptumInsight and OptumRx.

A replacement source could be this Healthcare Dive article. Alternative suggestions from editors are welcome!

Thanks for addressing this issue. Barbara at UHG (talk) 19:17, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Barbara at UHG . I've tagged the link as dead and added the archive URL for now. The Healthcare dive source you've provided looks OK, but not sure if it's necessary now. -OXYLYPSE (talk) 16:45, 21 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

On behalf of Optum, I'd like to request a correction to a citation that goes to a source that shows a page not found.

The citation pertains to the second sentence in the History section, which reads: Optum serves employers, government agencies, health plans, life science companies, care providers and individuals and families offering products in data and analytics, pharmacy care services, health care operations and delivery, population health management and advisory services.

Would editors be willing to replace the dead link in the citation with the web archive URL, which is also used in other citations in this article?

Thanks for addressing this issue. Barbara at UHG (talk) 20:09, 8 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Already done It appears that the dead link has been linked to an archived URL already. 🌊PacificDepthstalk|contrib 07:47, 11 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reviewing the previous related request. For some reason, I'm still seeing a Page Not Found message when I click on the link. To confirm, I'm asking about the link in citation number 7 named Optum Products and Services. It would be great if editors could take a second look. I appreciate your assistance. Barbara at UHG (talk) 18:35, 13 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Partly done Rescued the citation to an archive of the correct link. Any future requests about this citation can be reopened by setting "answered=yes" to "answered=no". Cheers, Heart (talk) 18:55, 13 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Acquisition listing in History section

edit

On behalf of Optum, I'd like to request a correction to the list of Major acquisitions in the History section.

Issue: The first entry dated April 2011 says “UnitedHealth Group announces Optum master brand, bringing together pharmacy services, data & analytics tools, and care delivery services under one roof.” Two comments regarding this information:

  • This entry is part of the list of Major acquisitions, however, it is not describing an acquisition.
  • This entry seems redundant to the information in the second paragraph of the Optum article, which says “Optum was formed as a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group in 2011 by merging UnitedHealth Group’s existing pharmacy and care delivery services into the single Optum brand,.

Solution: I am proposing that the entry dated April 2011 be deleted. Or another option might be to integrate the information into the existing paragraph under the Organization heading.

Alternative suggestions from editors are welcome. Thanks for addressing this issue! Barbara at UHG (talk) 18:15, 10 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

2024 Revenue for infobox

edit

On behalf of UnitedHealth Group, I'd like to request that the Revenue listed in the infobox for our Optum business be updated for 2024 as follows:

Revenue US$ 253 billion (2024)

A source to support this update is the UnitedHealth Group 2024 10-K.

Thanks for making this update! Barbara at UHG (talk) 16:12, 15 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Barbara at UHG I don't see that number in the source, could you please point me at the page? Rusalkii (talk) 21:14, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
User:Rusalkii, Yes, of course. You can find Optum Revenue listed on page 28 of the UnitedHealth Group 2024 10-K.

Additionally, the number is also available on page 4 in UnitedHealth Group’s year-end 2024 earnings release

Hope this answers your question! Barbara at UHG (talk) 21:51, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Ah, you were rounding, that's why I couldn't find it with a ctrl-F. Go ahead and make the change, though please make sure to specify the page number in your citation. Rusalkii (talk) 22:38, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate receiving permission to make the update outlined in the request above myself; however, I am more comfortable having someone else update the article on my behalf since I have a conflict of interest. Could someone please update the Revenue information in the infobox as outlined above?

Thanks. Barbara at UHG (talk) 23:33, 17 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Done though for future reference if you'd like another editor to implement it'd be convenient if you could provide an already-formatted citation. Rusalkii (talk) 21:59, 19 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Leadership update

edit

On behalf of Optum, I’d like to request an update to the Leadership listing in the History section. As shown in the infobox, Patrick Conway is now the CEO of Optum. Here is the corresponding update I am proposing for the Leadership listing in the History section:

  • April 2025: Patrick Conway is named CEO of Optum, replacing Heather Cianfrocco who has moved to a new role as executive vice president of governance, compliance, and information security at Optum.[1]

Edit to Major acquisitions listing

edit

On behalf of Optum, I'd like to request a correction to the list of Major acquisitions in the History section.

Issue: The first entry, dated January 2013, says “Partnering with Mayo Clinic, Optum unveils OptumLabs, a health data initiative.” The text is correct, however, since it is not referencing an acquisition, the information is incorrectly located under the Major acquisitions heading.

Solution: I am proposing that the information be moved to the existing paragraph under the Organization heading. Following is a suggestion for the addition to the end of the paragraph:

In January 2013 Optum, in partnership with Mayo Clinic, unveiled Optum Labs, a health data initiative.[1]

Alternative suggestions from editors are welcome. Thanks for addressing this issue! Barbara at UHG (talk) 18:47, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Edit to listing of acquisitions

edit

On behalf of Optum, I'd like to request a correction to the list of Major acquisitions in the History section.

Issue: The first entry, dated October 2013, says “Optum, partnering with Dignity Health, launches Optum360, a revenue cycle management venture.” The text is correct, however, since it is not referencing an acquisition, the information is incorrectly located under the Major acquisitions heading.

Solution: I am proposing that the information be moved to the existing paragraph under the Organization heading. Following is a suggestion for the addition to the end of the paragraph:

Clarification request

edit

I'd like to respond to an editor's clarification request noted in the Major acquisitions section of the Optum article.

The clarification needed pertains to the term patient engagement in the listing for the February 2014 acquisition of Audax Health Solutions.

This CNBC article describes Audax Health as a digital health company with a vision to incentivize better consumer health behaviors.

If this clarification is acceptable to editors, here is the updated entry:

  • February 2014: Optum purchases a majority stake in Audax Health Solutions, a digital health company with a vision to incentivize better consumer health behaviors. Audax is later rebranded as Rally Health.

Alternative suggestions from editors are welcome! Thank you for addressing this issue. Barbara at UHG (talk) 19:55, 24 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Question: hm, agree with the gist of the request, but "a vision to" feels slightly promotional; do you have any alternative suggestions? GoldRomean (talk) 01:16, 12 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Go ahead: I have reviewed these proposed changes and suggest that you go ahead and make the proposed changes to the page. GoldRomean (talk) 22:37, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • User:GoldRomean, Thanks for reviewing the replacement text and granting me permission to make the update myself. However, I am more comfortable having someone else update the article on my behalf since I have a conflict of interest. Could someone please make this edit for me? The edited text for the February 2014 listing in the Major acquisitions section should read: Optum purchases a majority stake in Audax Health Solutions, a digital health company working to incentivize better consumer health behaviors. Audax is later rebranded as Rally Health. Thank you! Barbara at UHG (talk) 19:25, 15 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Business description in introduction

edit

On behalf of Optum, I'd like to request an edit to this article’s introduction.

The fourth paragraph in the introduction states: Optum, a distinct subsidiary wholly owned by UnitedHealth Group, operates as its Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Shared Services arm, supporting Optum and its sister companies with customer service operations in countries such as the Philippines.

This paragraph is problematic for the following reason:

In addition:

  • The phrase in the fourth paragraph that states: Optum, a distinct subsidiary wholly owned by UnitedHealth Group, repeats information already included in the second paragraph of the introduction, which says: Optum was formed as a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.
  • The fourth paragraph in the introduction is unsourced and not supported elsewhere in the article.

Solution: I am proposing that editors consider deleting this problematic paragraph.

As always, alternative suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for addressing this issue! Barbara at UHG (talk) 17:57, 9 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Pinging @Johngaje92 who added the text. I'm a bit confused by it. It's unclear if "distinct" means different from the rest of Optum Inc, and why we have a paragraph just about the Philippines here. I'm going to go ahead and delete for now, but please clarify if you think it should be readded what you meant by it. meamemg (talk) 20:18, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Edit to Major acquisitions list

edit

On behalf of Optum, I'd like to submit another request for the "Major acquisitions" section, specifically this bullet point:

  • July 2022: Optum acquires Caremount Medical, Inc., of southeastern New York State, Riverside Medical Care of New Jersey, and ProHealth Medical Group of Western Connecticut, three midsized physician-led independent medical groups. In its announcement to the public and patients of the acquisitions, insurance company UnitedHealth Group is not mentioned, casting the transaction as a merger of three midsize physician-led companies into a new company rather than three acquisitions by an existing much larger Fortune 500 corporation with multiple types of health-related acquisitions, as described above.[1]

This text is attributed to a general link on the Optum website, which doesn’t support the entry here. In addition, I am unable to find an acquisition announcement to substantiate the claims made in the text. Without sourcing, and since the language implies some sort of intentional omission, I request removal of this bullet point. Thanks for addressing this issue! Barbara at UHG (talk) 20:22, 19 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

I completed this. Very reasonable request on your part, as there doesn't seem to be any actual source for the merger. Dflovett (talk) 22:08, 22 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
