Article rewrite and source cleanup, April 2026

edit

The article was updated in April 2026 to treat Nipissing First Nation primarily as the First Nation government/community article, with detailed reserve-specific census and land-area material handled separately at Nipissing Indian Reserve 10. This follows the distinction used elsewhere between a First Nation or band government and the related Indian reserve or reserves.

The WikiProject banner was also updated from Stub-class to Start-class because the article now has a lead, history, reserve and communities, language and culture, demographics, governance, notable people, references and external links. The Canada banner now uses |community=yes rather than |geography=yes, since the article is about the First Nation/community rather than only a geographic feature. Editors may reassess the class or importance ratings if the article is further expanded.

A few cleanup points from older talk-page comments remain useful:

  • A map could still improve the article if a freely licensed and accurately sourced map is available.
  • Kinship-system material should not be restored without reliable sourcing that directly supports the relevant claims.
  • The Jean Nicolet / Bahmahmaadjimiwin / Marie Euphrasine Madalane Nicolet material should not be added to the article unless reliable sources can verify the details and establish their relevance to Nipissing First Nation.

The April 2026 cleanup also removed or reduced dated, unsourced or reserve-specific material from the First Nation article, including old 2011 census figures, unsupported clan-governance claims, and current-leadership statements that needed newer sources.
