What is the connection between the stadium's location and its role as host for two World Cups?
editThe article states that "Because of its location this stadium has hosted two World Cups (1970 and 1986)." What is meant by because of its location...? Fomalhaut76 (talk) 21:26, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Renaming? Few options I'd like to discuss
editHello. I'd like to propose renaming this article but I would first like to see what options we have. First off, the article is misspelled. Diez is without an accent, as most sources describe it as such, even official pages (Examples of Diez without the accent: Fundación Nemesio Diez TV Azteca Mediotiempo).
But I'm also wondering if we should rename it to "Nemesio Diez Stadium" as several sources refer to it as such and this is English Wikipedia after all (Google Search for "Nemesio Diez Stadium")
- Option 1: Estadio Nemesio Díez (accent, misspelled) → Estadio Nemesio Diez (no accent)
- Option 2: Estadio Nemesio Díez → Nemesio Diez Stadium

- Hello, in my opinion, the change that absolutely needs to be made is to remove the accent from "Diez," since, as you mentioned, Nemesio Diez's name has always been without the accent. I even saw that in the Talk section of the stadium article on the Spanish Wikipedia, they mentioned the accent issue many years ago, but they never corrected it.
- And I would vote for option 2 because it's in English.
- But I also think it's correct, as I mentioned before, to correct the accent issue.
- Thanks for the recognition, and best regards, Morogris! :) Nihoniumaluminum (talk) 05:26, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

Estadio Nemesio Díez → Nemesio Diez Stadium – There are two reasons for this move. First, "Nemesio Diez Stadium" is the standard English name, plenty of English-language sources use it (Google Search for "Nemesio Diez Stadium"), and keeping "Estadio" feels more appropriate for truly emblematic stadiums like Estadio Azteca, not this one. Second, the accent on "Díez" is incorrect. Reliable sources, including official ones, spell it without one: Fundación Nemesio Diez, TV Azteca, Mediotiempo. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 14:20, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom, the rationale of comparing the Spanish name to popularity of the Estadio Azteca's Spanish name makes sense. At the very least, the accent looks like it should be removed. Raskuly 🐰 15:35, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
