Still up to FA quality?
editI just removed two statements from this article that failed to verify, one of which for that matter contained racially loaded language. Looking at the rest of the article, I'm seeing factual errors (the Eighth's ruling in 2011 didn't really "affirm[ ] the legitimacy of the lockout"), out-of-date information (subsequent Smith terms ), and style issues ("Court of Appeals" is the wrong link), and that's just at a glance. At present this is not up to the standard of a featured article, in my opinion. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 02:07, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oh and the concussion protocols aren't mentioned once, despite being one of the things the Smith-era NFLPA is best known for. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 02:10, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

National Football League Players Association → NFL Players Association – Following consensus at Talk:National Football League#Requested move 3 March 2024 and the fact that the common name of the NFLPA is "NFL Players Association". « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:54, 29 March 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. - Comment Note that this affects Category:National Football League Players Association and related subcategories. 162 etc. (talk) 17:29, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Leaning oppose. I've seen it spelled out enough times, in sources which normally abbreviate NFL, to make me think it isn't necessarily the common name. O.N.R. (talk) 21:13, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Slight Oppose, this is the full name of the association, although its logo uses the initials NFL. The short name could also be surmised as NFLPA, which is used by the group itself and many of the sources. Randy Kryn (talk) 06:50, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

- Are you implying that there was an existing consensus to move this article? Graham (talk) 04:09, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. "National Football League Players Association" is the official name of the labor union. Cfls (talk) 22:50, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Cfls I urge you to reconsider if that is the reason for your oppose. The official name of America's civilian space agency is the National Aeronatics and Space Administration, yet our Wikipedia article is titled NASA because that is its common name. WP policy overrules legal names when entities are known by different, more common names. In this case, NFL Players Association is clearly more common than having NFL spelt out. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:59, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose The expanded "National Football League Players Association" is consistent with MOS:ACROTITLE and its Central Intelligence Agency example (
...in view of arguments that the full name is used in professional and academic publications)
. This is similiar to National Football League being the page title, and NFL being a redirect. For examples of the full expansion:- "The National Football League Players Association announced Wednesday that Lloyd Howell was elected by the board of player representatives as their new executive director of the NFLPA." (USA Today)
- "The National Football League Players Association reached an agreement with the league on Thursday to preserve the disability benefits of hundreds of former players three months before those players were set to lose thousands of dollars a month in payments." (The New York Times)
- "We thought you might have some questions about what's in it. Thanks to a copy of the memo the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) sent to its members, we have some answers" (ESPN)—Bagumba (talk) 15:04, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support: It's typically referred to as the NFL Player's Association or NFLPA. The long name is not what I'd consider to be the WP:COMMONNAME in this situation. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:25, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: Relist, to allow time for editors to provide evidence for the arguments as to what the WP:COMMONNAME is BilledMammal (talk) 06:28, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose – This article is not analogous to the articles moved in the other RM as "National Football League" is being used here as part of a proper name. And use of the partially abbreviated name isn't substantially more common than use of the full name (see, e.g., this ngram). Graham (talk) 06:34, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

National Football League Players Association → NFL Players Association – After a year and some additional NFL-related page moves, I would like to re-engage this discussion for the following reasons:
- WP:CRITERIA: "NFL Players Association" is recognizable ("NFL" is a widely recognized brand for the league), natural (it is natural to assume most NFL readers are searching for "NFL", not the full name), precise (it clearly defines the players association for the NFL), concise ("NFL" is more concise), and consistent (this is consistent with almost all other NFL related articles, such as NFL Referees Association).
- WP:ATEC: Past consensus was clear that all articles with "NFL", except two specific titles, should be spelled out as "NFL" and not "National Football League". This naming convention should be followed, even if this means superseding WP:COMMONNAME
- WP:COMMONNAME: speaking of this, I think it appears, based on previous discussion, that "NFLPA", "NFL Players Association" and "National Football League Players Association" are used almost interchangeably and possibly somewhat evenly. For every source one editor provided showing one use, another editor would provide another source showing a different use. In this case, I think it is important to then look at how the organization views itself: Their home page uses "NFL Players Association" on the Google search page and "NFLPA" as their url and name in their website, Twitter uses "NFLPA" as their handle and name, but states "The NFL Players Association" in their byline, LinkedIn uses "NFL Players Association, Instagram uses "NFLPA" as their handle and "NFL Players Association" in their byline, Facebook uses "NFL Players Association" as their title and "NFLPA" as their URL identifier, YouTube uses "NFL Players Association" as their title and "NFLPA" as their handle, and Indeed uses "NFL Players Association" for everything. Importantly, none of these use "National Football League Players Association".
WP:COMMONNAME says When there is no single, obvious name that is demonstrably the most frequently used for the topic by these sources, editors should reach a consensus as to which title is best by considering these criteria directly.
In this case, based on the above, I believe in the absence of a clear common name, we should form consensus around "NFL Players Association", as it matches the consensus for the naming convention for NFL-related articles established last year and is consistent with how the association brands itself. Thank you, « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 17:17, 17 June 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose Per WP:CONSISTENT and WP:OFFICIALNAME. The proposed title already redirects here. And the league article title is National Football League and not NFL Servite et contribuere (talk) 01:51, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Servite et contribuere, will you elaborate please? WP:CONSISTENT would seem to support the move; take a look at Category:National Football League, literally every single NFL-related article except two, per the prior move, uses "NFL". Not sure how the essay WP:OFFICIALNAME relates to your argument, nor how a redirect impacts a move discussion. The reason the main article is not NFL is because NFL can relate to a lot of different things. See NFL (disambiguation). This provides natural disambiguation by spelling it out and is not related to WP:COMMONNAME (of which, NFL is the common name). « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:41, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
