Introduced to Scotland?

edit

I was under the impression and have heard it said by others, that mountain hares were the only native leporids in Scotland. Were they really, per the map, introduced and, if so, by whom? Mutt Lunker (talk) 22:05, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

According to Mammal Species of the World (), that is wrong: they were introduced only to some Scottish islands as well as England. Ucucha (talk) 08:25, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've asked the author of the map if they can provide an amended version. Mutt Lunker (talk) 16:22, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Competing with European Hare in northern parts of Finland, Norway and Sweden

edit

The article claims (without a source) that mountain hare is competing for habitat in northern parts of Finland, Norway and Sweden. I think it should say "southern parts of Finland, Norway and Sweden", since european hares can be found only on southern parts of these countries. 2A02:810D:AABF:EC98:60EC:995A:1C65:8548 (talk) 18:46, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Preferred section order and images

edit

The history is getting all mixed up here. I want to get some clarifications. @EllieJaneHctt, what do you want the article to look like? It is not clear without seeing any edit summaries from you. There are also a lot of images on this page. Eventually I will work on making this article longer, so that there will be more space, but it looks cluttered right now. I will also eventually make a better range map using the current data but it is hard to make range maps with Russia due to how stretched the IUCN map projection is.

The state of the article as it is right now is in line with most of the other hare articles like European hare and Burmese hare.

I am also notifying @BhagyaMani and @~2026-27408-77 since they've been involved in this back and forth today. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 18:06, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I agree that EllieJaneHctt should provide edit summaries and explanation for their reverts. Re the structure: this is in line with most pages on species, so ok imo. I suggest moving the 2 img files on left to auto align, bcs on small screens, the text is squeezed in between. BhagyaMani (talk) 18:17, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I am not sure how to do that without using {{Clear}}. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 18:59, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Really sorry if i caused confusion and upset. I'd just quite like my hare photo to feature on the page. I can stop making edits if you'd like but do you think it would be possible to include my photo somewhere? Thank you :) EllieJaneHctt (talk) 10:00, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey EllieJaneHctt: did you photograph this image yourself? Or who is the copyright owner? BhagyaMani (talk) 11:20, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi yes I did, I have uploaded it as part of the wiki commons photography competition :) EllieJaneHctt (talk) 11:21, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think it is a very nice photo. There are not many pictures of the mountain hare in Scotland. Even so, there exists this picture too:
In Scotland
Since the hare is only a small part of your photo, maybe it would be better placed at Cairngorms to show examples of wildlife and typical plant growths in the area? -- Reconrabbit (talk) 13:48, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes perhaps you are right, maybe in the Nature and Conservation section. EllieJaneHctt (talk) 13:50, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Also, just one thing, mountain hare and arctic hare are not the same species, they re seperate (mountain hare is lepus timidus and arctic hare is lepus arcticus) EllieJaneHctt (talk) 13:53, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
