Rename Mount Stanley
editMount Stanley is named after Henry Stanley, a person who was responsible for much of the horrible action that occurred in Africa as he assisted the Europeans in colonialism. It would seem counterproductive, especially in our modern society, that we are focusing on the whitewashed western name of the mountain as opposed to the original and true name of the mountain which is Mount Ngaliema. 46.11.149.191 (talk) 20:16, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

- You can start a move discussion by following the steps in WP:PCM. However, I don't think the move request will be successful since Mount Stanley is still the overwhelming WP:COMMONNAME. Vpab15 (talk) 11:10, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- This is an encyclopedia, not a "progressive" re-education project. You might not like the outcomes of his actions, but there's no doubt of his wide ranging achievements, whether you approve of them or not. As such it's entirely appropriate for the mountain to be named after him in English. It's not for a handful of Wikipedians to decide on all the rights and wrongs of the world. English Wikipedia should use the name that is most recognised in English. It can of course be known otherwise in other languages. ~2026-12099-76 (talk) 23:10, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
Added Cheptegei Peak
editWhile online information on this is scarce, we recently summited this peak (JULY 2024). Happy to post pictures of proof. The peak is listed at 4907 ASL. It has been recently opened peak, and named after https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua_Cheptegei 102.182.46.169 (talk) 08:21, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
