Article renovation summary
editHello fellow Wikipedians,
I recently completed a substantial renovation of this article to better align it with Wikipedia's guidelines for structure, tone, and content scope. This edit was done to improve readability, sourcing, and overall encyclopedic quality. Below is a summary of the changes made:
Scope refinement
editThe previous version of the article contained significant content related to the Mohegan Tribe's business entity (formerly Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment). That material has been removed or excluded to keep the focus exclusively on the Mohegan Sun resort and casino located in Uncasville, Connecticut. Company-related content should reside in its own article if warranted.
Structural improvements
editThe article was reorganized into standard sections commonly used for resort and casino entries. New sections now include:
- History – divided into early development, legal background, expansion, and renovations
- Facilities – including casino, hotels, convention spaces, and retail/dining
- Entertainment – covering Mohegan Sun Arena and other performance venues
- Design and architecture – with subsections for thematic elements, Wombi Rock, and the overall layout
- Additional sections on Economic impact, Attempted unionization, and In popular culture
Content additions
editNew verifiable content was added, supported by reliable sources. These additions include:
- Detailed description of the casino layout and its three gaming areas
- Information on both the Sky and Earth Towers, including construction dates and amenities
- Facts about the Earth Expo & Convention Center and Uncas Ballroom
- A breakdown of notable dining venues and retail offerings
- Description of Wombi Rock, Taughannick Falls, and other symbolic architectural features
- Coverage of unionization attempts by table game dealers
- Mohegan Sun's appearances in television, film, and music
Images added
editSeveral new images were added throughout the article, all chosen to enhance clarity without overwhelming the page:
- Earth Tower exterior and interior
- Earth Expo Center during Miss America
- Trail of Life and waterfall near the Sky Tower
- Mohegan Sun Arena interior during concert setup
- TAO restaurant interior
- Wombi Rock in the Casino of the Sky
Each image was placed to match its corresponding subsection (typically one per subsection) in line with WP:MOS guidelines.
Tone and neutrality
editCare was taken to eliminate promotional language. All claims are cited, balanced, and presented in an objective tone consistent with Wikipedia’s neutral point of view.
Thanks in advance for any further improvements or feedback. Feel free to build on this version — especially with up-to-date references or historical detail related to tribal development decisions.
Lead image choice
editThere’s some disagreement about which photo should be used as the lead image for *Mohegan Sun*.
| Sky Tower close-up | Wide complex view (currently lead) |
The close-up is sharp, but the wide shot shows the whole resort. Since the lead image should represent the full subject (WP:LEADIMAGE), I think the wide shot is more appropriate, with the tower photo in the Sky Tower/Earth Tower section. Opening this for input so consensus can be reached. Hayden Soloviev (talk) 00:45, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- If you’re standing across the Thames River, looking at the Mohegan Sun, you won’t see any of the other buildings or the Earth Tower. What you’ll see is the Crystal (the Sky Tower, featured in the "close-up" image). When you visit Mohegan Sun, the dominant visual that will stick with you is the Sky Tower. It is the iconic centerpiece of the entire complex.
- If the goal was to showcase an aerial view of the entire complex, I could understand that choice. However, the image in question is just a back-view shot that captures less than half of the complex, leaving much of it out of frame, so the image seems quite useless if that were the goal.
- The claim that the image is "clearer" doesn’t hold up. As I mentioned earlier, the Sky Tower is the most recognizable and defining feature of the complex. It simply makes more sense to feature a clear, full shot of the Sky Tower as the lead image. Alexnewmon2623 (talk) 00:57, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

Example of an overly broad view of the complex - This wide aerial (right) shows the drawback of pulling back too far. It’s mostly roofs and parking, which doesn’t give readers much sense of the resort itself. The Sky Tower close-up has the opposite problem by reducing Mohegan Sun to a single building, when even the Earth Tower has its own article.
- MOS:LEADIMAGE says the lead should be a natural and appropriate representation of the topic. The current lead does that. It shows the complex in context without losing focus, and it avoids narrowing the subject to one tower. Hayden Soloviev (talk) 02:09, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
