MEDRS

edit

In general, any WP:BMI on Wikipedia needs WP:MEDRS sourcing. This article has a lot of problems where this isn't so. Bon courage (talk) 14:34, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Oh Bon courage, this article is in need of a hell of a lot more than MEDRS. But drive by editing and slapping flags on it isnt helping it one iota.

I will remove the disputed neutrality flag, though, because I dont see your argument where the dispute in neutrality is. I´ ve done minor clean up as you can see. and so could you.Wuerzele (talk) 16:22, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

An article built out of unreliable sources is not neutral, because (by definition) it does not accurately reflect what reliable sources are saying about a topic. When is improving an article "drive by editing"? Such characterisations, and your reversion to restore unreliable content, are unwelcome. Bon courage (talk) 16:25, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Your welcome to expand, clean up , find sources etc. nagging not so much!--Wuerzele (talk) 16:29, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

What is the reason for this article?

edit

Based on the title, I would assume the article's about the effect of microplastics on human health. However, a majority of the article is devoted to talking about how microplastics end up in the human body, rather than what they do once they're inside; furthermore, almost all of the content on effects is displayed as a bulleted list rather than in prose. While the method of bioaccumulation is obviously relevant to how it affects the human body, I don't think it should be the main focus.

I would expand that section myself, but unfortunately I don't have the relevant background so I don't know if I can do the subject justice. However, the "Human health" section of the Microplastics article has more prose dedicated to the topic of human effects than this article, which should serve as a jumping-off point.

On that note, does this article need to exist, or could it be merged into the Microplastics page? There seems to be a lot of redundancy between the two pages. ARoseThorn (talk) 01:39, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

It's a good point; I do think there is redundancy between the two pages, especially related to exposure routes. For this page I am trying to condense those points on a copy edit and focus on the specific health implications of those exposure routes.
The general focus on exposure and not specific health effects, however, I believe is just due to the current state of research; the WHO and other public health orgs are all still calling for more research investigating links between MNPs and disease. So I do think this article is useful for people looking for research updates as well as specific information about MNPs and the body (versus implications for sustainability, animal life, etc.).

Potential AI-generated text

edit

Concerns were raised previously about AI-generated content in this article, which is prohibited per WP:NEWLLM. This is a procedural talk page section to discuss it. There is no need to ping me in response. Read WP:AISIGNS for more information for why this is tagged; however, note that fixing the issue requires more than just removing the superficial signs. The edit in question is Special:Diff/1253806980, note this is different than the AI edits added this month. Gnomingstuff (talk) 13:00, 18 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Maternal exposure—additional info about prenatal exposure?

edit

The "maternal exposure" section is focused largely on exposure through breastmilk; since MNPs have also been found in fetal cord blood and the placenta, it might be beneficial to include a paragraph about how MNPs can cross the placental barrier. (I don't have the medical/scientific background to do it justice, however!) Windchimes098 (talk) 05:38, 3 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
