English
editHello. Somebody should add a section about the English dub, ADV Films is creating a dub of it. 86.10.227.232 (talk) 17:26, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Until an official announcement of the dub is released, there will be no section for that. And I would really recommend staying off of that for now, because it's still pretty unsettled.Karuseikaarie (talk) 01:32, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Picture?
editThe previous picture in the infobox for this article was a picture of Lucia in her idol form. I felt this was not representative enough of the entire anime, and replaced it with a picture of the entire mermaid idol cast. If anybody feels this is unnecessary and would like to revert to the original picture, it can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PinkPearlVoice.jpg . Thanks! Character articles merged
editI've merged all the individual character articles into a single article: Characters of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch. See WP:FICT as to why I did so. Nifboy 23:17, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Character Names
editCurrently, the article says:
| “ | The spellings of the names of the Mermaid Princesses are based from how they were spelled in the official merchandise. Other names were based from the ones used by fans over the internet. | ” |
Surely, the other character names should be taken from the most official English language source of all - the Del Ray translation? --Ppk01 15:10, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Question is... how are they spelled in the Del Ray manga? - 上村七美 | talk 15:13, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Seeing as I do not have possession of any of the manga issues (and probably won't until Christmas), the truth is in the darkness forever... for now. Ppk01 15:23, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- The English manga uses the official names, with Del Rey's trademark macrons. Therefore, we have 'Lucia Nanami, Nikora, Hippo, Kaito Dômoto, Hanon Hôshô, Gackto, Izûru, Eriru, Rina Tôin, Yûri, Noel, Momo-chan, Maria, Taki-san, Meru and Kura-chan for all the characters that have been named and appeared thus far. Sara, Coco and Caren have appeared but were not named; however, it is assumed that they too will use the official spellings. --Sana Jisushi 18:00, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- Na, how could I forget Tarô Mitsuki/Mizuki? Both have been used. --Sana Jisushi 18:02, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- Do you mean macrons or circumflexes? You used circumflexes in those you listed above. - 上村七美 | talk 18:37, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- Better use macrons, so as to conform to the Japanese Manual of Style (which, as it turns out, is written in English). Ppk01 10:32, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

The Cleanup of 30 October 2006
editHere's a summary of what's been changed.
- The HTML-style comments have been removed, and replaced with a single one atop the Characters section.
- The article's title is Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, the most commonly used title for the franchise, so this is still the title used throughout the article. However, the English manga title has now been emboldened to give it emphasis. Likewise, the titles in the infoboxes have been corrected (thanks to JSH-alive).
- The opening paragraph has been spaced out.
- The basic story has been clarified a bit.
- The seiyū section has been merged into the Characters section using the anime voices template.
- Slight rephrasing in the opening and the songs sections.
- Information on the anime in other countries has been moved to a The anime in other countries section.
All this should help bring the article into line with the WikiProject Anime and Manga Article Structure Guidelines. Enjoy! --Ppk01 13:54, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Review
editRename to Pichi Pichi Pitch?
editI know that for a time. ADV had license the anime series and was going to release it under the name Mermaid Melody, however things fell through and it never happened. Del Ray Manga did license the manga and release it as Pichi Pichi Pitch with Mermaid Melody as a WP:SUBTITLE. Given that the manga is the primary work and also the version that was released in English, shouldn't the article be renamed to Pichi Pichi Pitch per MOS:A&M#Article names and disambiguation? —Farix (t | c) 16:39, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
- I'm reviving this conversation because while I was cleaning up the article, it turns out that the manga has always been titled Pichi Pichi Pitch even in Japan. The Mermaid Melody subtitle was added for the anime only, even if the text appears on covers in the manga (probably as an alternative English title for Pichi Pichi Pitch). lullabying (talk) 01:03, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
- After thinking through this, here are my thoughts: I would list Pichi Pichi Pitch as the title in the lead, but keep the article title as Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch due to WP:COMMONNAME and because Kodansha USA releases the sequel manga as Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch: Aqua. Here is a revision I made that reflects this. lullabying (talk) 01:56, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

I will be reviewing the article. Z. Patterson (talk) 17:48, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
- Subject is notable based on what I find in Google, Google News, Google Books, Google Scholar, ProQuest, Gale, JSTOR, and EBSCO. There are no copyright violations based on what I see in Earwig's copyvio detector. There are no recent edit wars. The article appears to be well-written. The image used is appropriate for the subject. Therefore, the following criteria are met so far. The article appears to be broad in coverage.
- Well-written
- the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct
- it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation
- Broad in its coverage
- it addresses the main aspects of the topic
- it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style)
- Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each
- Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute
- Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio
- media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content
- media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions
- Well-written
- A more detailed review regarding Criterion 2 of the good article criteria will be forthcoming. Z. Patterson (talk) 18:03, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Lullabying: I have two points to address.
- Would you mind either paraphrasing "quotes" from Japanese-language sources, or providing the original Japanese quote in the citation?
- Would you mind formatting the ISBNs in the tankōbon, shinsōban, and Pichi Pichi Pitch: Aqua tables? Usually, Japanese ISBNs have the following format: 978-4-XX-XXXXXX-X. English ISBNs usually have the following format: 978-0-XXXX-XXXX-X or 978-1-XXXX-XXXX-X.
- Otherwise, I have checked the sources I could check and can confirm there is no original research. I am impressed at the quality of this article at the time of nomination. Z. Patterson (talk) 20:58, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
- I've formatted the ISBNs. As for the Japanese quotes, can you elaborate what you mean? Do you mean I give an excerpt as a quote for the creation section? I also noticed you added a lot of Japanese text... is there a way to do it so that it doesn't become distracting and difficult to read through the article? lullabying (talk) 10:19, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Lullabying: I am talking about paragraphs such as the below one that have translated quotes. Are you able to either paraphrase these translated quotes or provide the original Japanese quotes in the citation?
- Izuru's name was based on one of Hanamori's editors, while Eriru is based on Hanamori's older sister, who she describes as a person "whose mood changes drastically." For the Black Beauty Sisters, Hanamori wanted to express the "darkness" of anglerfish and the jaggedness of fangs from deep sea fish in a "cool" way.
- I hope this clarifies what I mean. Z. Patterson (talk) 13:01, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- Since various parts of the "development" section is credited to an article, would I have to make separate citations for it? It would also mean having to translate almost the entire article. lullabying (talk) 23:27, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Lullabying: No, you should not have to make separate citations. You can put the original quotes in a citation or in a footnote; or you can paraphrase or summarize what the article says. Z. Patterson (talk) 00:47, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Lullabying: I was WP:BOLD and made the changes myself. In addition to what I stated above, I confirm the following.
- Verifiable with no original research
- it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline
- reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose)
- it contains no original research
- it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism
- Verifiable with no original research
- Therefore, I am passing this as a good article. I commend your work. Z. Patterson (talk) 00:54, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
