Why no mention of her role in Young Sheldon?

edit

She played a minor character named Paige Swanson. Is she not happy with that time in her career? 2603:8000:2500:FB9:A4A7:D4B2:7EF6:DC27 (talk) 21:20, 9 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

You can find it in this article: List of Mckenna Grace performances -- Nurtenge (talk) 04:03, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
She has expressed deep appreciation for her time on Young Sheldon, frequently highlighting the personal and professional value of the role. In late 2025, she noted that the show will "always hold a special place" in her heart. Her absence from the final season in 2024 was not due to dissatisfaction, but rather her skyrocketing success; showrunners noted she had become a "movie star" and her busy filming schedule for other projects made her unavailable for the series finale. And her role is mentioned, now. ~2025-41843-59 (talk) 19:58, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment I added it twice and it was reverted which is why I declined it this time. My concern here is that I am not sure why this role is important enough to put in the intro. Docmoates (talk) 20:13, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Her role is considered highly important to the show’s narrative for several reasons:
    • Intellectual Rivalry - Paige was introduced in Season 2 as a fellow child prodigy in Dr John Sturgis's class. As one of the few characters who was as gifted as—if not smarter than—Sheldon, she served as his primary intellectual rival, forcing him to work harder and confront his own social and academic insecurities.
    • The "Anti-Sheldon" Arc - While Sheldon thrived in a supportive (albeit sometimes confused) family environment, Paige's storyline served as a cautionary tale. Following her parents' divorce, her character transitioned from a focused genius to a rebellious teenager, highlighting the different emotional paths child prodigies can take.
    • Relationship with Missy - Beyond Sheldon, Paige developed a significant bond with his twin sister, Missy. Their friendship allowed the show to explore Missy's character more deeply, including their shared rebellious phase, such as when they ran away together in Season 6.
    • Impact on the Series Finale - Although she was a fan-favourite, Paige did not appear in the final season (Season 7) due to Grace's busy filming schedule. Her absence was widely noted by fans and critics, as many felt her storyline lacked a proper "ideal ending" or resolution in the series finale.

Just putting a note here as to why I am opposed to it being added in the lead:
  • As per MOS:INTRO, the lead should briefly summarize the most important points covered in an article. Young Sheldon is not one of the most important points covered, being given only one sentence due to the minor-ness of her role. By contrast, everything else mentioned in the lead has at least three sentences. (Note: As for Her earliest roles included Jasmine Bernstein in the Disney XD sitcom Crash & Bernstein (2012–2014) and Faith Newman in the soap opera The Young and the Restless (2013–2015), I understand that these are not significant roles, but this sentence exists more to give a framework of Grace's early career before she broke through)
  • Per WP:DUE and WP:LEADREL, the content covered in the lead should reflect the coverage in reliable sources. The only significant coverage I can find in reliable sources about her role in Young Sheldon in high-quality reliable sources (since this is an FA) are her absence in the final season and this. Even Grace herself has attributed the recognition to the show's popularity with teenagers—and the coverage seems to reflect that.
All in all, the role just doesn't seem to have had a significant impact on her career, despite the show's popularity. Everything else mentioned in the lead, aside from her earliest roles, is something in which she has a starring role or received tons of coverage for (The Handmaid's Tale). IMO, Young Sheldon just doesn't seem notable enough for Grace to add to the lead. Pamzeis (talk) 01:54, 20 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Acting as Paige Swanson in Young Sheldon is widely considered a significant role and a major career highlight for Mckenna Grace, though not technically her "breakout" moment. In 2025, Grace revealed that despite appearing in only nine episodes, she gets recognised for Young Sheldon more than any other project. She expressed surprise at this, given her lead roles in major film franchises. Her performance made Paige a fan favourite, to the point that her absence in the final season (due to scheduling conflicts) was a major point of discussion among viewers and critics. By the time she joined the show, she was already established as a "movie star," making her difficult for the production to secure for a permanent role. Young Sheldon provided her with her highest level of public visibility and a "standout" character.
The role of Paige Swanson had a significant impact on Mckenna Grace's career, primarily by providing her with her highest level of public visibility and fan recognition.
  • Most Recognised Role - In 2025, Grace noted that despite only appearing in nine episodes, Paige is the character she is recognised for most often by fans. She expressed surprise at this, given her lead roles in major blockbuster franchises like Ghostbusters.
  • Proof of Versatility - The role allowed her to transition from playing a traditional "child genius" (similar to her breakout role in Gifted) into a more complex, rebellious character. This helped her move away from being typecast as just the "younger version" of female leads.
  • Fan Favorite Status - Her performance made the character so popular that her absence from the final season in 2024 was a major source of fan disappointment and speculation.
  • Commercial Success - Young Sheldon cemented her as a recognizable star for the teenage and sitcom-watching demographic.
It is her most "famous" role to many fans. ~2025-42352-57 (talk) 23:55, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
What is mentioned in the lead is not based on fan popularity; it is based on the body of the article, reliable sources and what is WP:DUE. Furthermore, there is no evidence that the role had any impact on Grace's career (it is one of many recurring roles that she played). At this point, she had already starred in her breakout (Gifted) and had booked roles in The Bad Seed, Annabelle Comes Home, etc. and there is far more coverage of such roles. Evidence suggests Mckenna Grace's role as Paige Swanson in Young Sheldon had a significant impact on her public recognition and serves as a benchmark for her transition from a child star to a versatile adult actor.
  • High Recognition Value: Despite having a recurring rather than a main role—appearing in only 9 episodes—Grace often receives more public recognition for her role as Paige than for her work in major film franchises.
  • A "Fan-Favorite" Character: Her portrayal of Sheldon’s intellectual rival was highly popular; fans frequently expressed dissatisfaction when her character did not receive a final farewell in the series finale.
  • Benchmark for Transformation: Media reports in 2025 frequently use her Young Sheldon era as a point of comparison to highlight her "massive transformation" into an adult actor and producer.
  • Breaking Typecasting: While Young Sheldon reinforced her image as a "child prodigy" (following her breakout role in Gifted), it also preceded a major shift toward more mature, diverse roles.
  • Professional Maturity: Her time on the show overlapped with her gaining significant industry standing; by the final season, she was too busy with major film commitments to return, demonstrating her growth into a "movie star" status.

Executive producer Steve Holland said McKenna Grace's character, Paige Swanson, was very popular, even though she only appeared in a few episodes starting in the second season. Fans often asked why she didn't appear in the final season. However, he explained she wasn't brought back because her story arc didn't need closure. Additionally, Grace was so in demand at the time that they probably couldn't have cast her even if they wanted to.~2025-42395-43 (talk) 16:59, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Change photo in the infobox

edit

Currently the photo is a slightly unflattering angle, from above her face. It would be preferable to get a straight headshot - and there are plenty available. Hudson The Cat (talk) 03:24, 16 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

It’s fine. Seasider53 (talk) 08:48, 16 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

2006 or 2007

edit

I saw that in the Infobox her birth date was listed at June 25, 2007 but everywhere else it is listed at June 25, 2006. I Wondered if it was a mistake or if it was intentional Hajun is Boundless (talk) 06:57, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

It had just been changed - 3 hours ago from this post. I've changed it back as unsourced. Thanks for spotting. Chaheel Riens (talk) 08:18, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
