Incorrect Info on Mariska Hargitay's "Early Life" section
edit"Her biological father was the Brazilian singer Nelson Sardelli" is what is written under her early life. This is incorrect. Nelson Sardelli is Italian not Brazilian. If someone could edit and correct this information, thanks. Wetpawprints (talk) 22:45, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
Not done Sardelli "is a Brazilian-born singer, actor, and comedian of Italian descent." Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 02:05, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
Infobox
editI dropped an explanatory note in the infobox to address the complex situation surrounding Hargitay's paternity. I noticed that there have been several edits adding terms like "putative father", "legal father", "biological father", etc., and none of them seemed to me to clarify the situation. As of now, Nelson Sardelli is listed as Hargitay's father in the infobox and the footnote explains Mickey Hargitay's role in her life. I hope that this works for everyone and am open to input. ~2026-72635-4 (talk) 23:25, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
- It was correct before your edit. It's not complex. In California, at the relevant time, the husband was by law considered the father of someone born during the marriage (thus, legal father). Biological means just that. Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 00:11, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
- Quaerens-veritatem, the problem I have with your reverts is that you have not cited a source for the proposition that Mickey Hargitay is Mariska's legal father. If there is a source somewhere in the article (or elsewhere) that says this, please add it. Otherwise, calling Mickey her legal father--whether it is true or not--is original research. If you have no source to cite, please reinstate my edits. Thanks. ~2026-72635-4 (talk) 04:03, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
- For applicable California law see, presumption of paternity and Mickey was also awarded legal guardianship versus Jayne (|title=Mickey Hargitay Named Guardian |work=Daytona Beach Sunday News-Journal |date=June 8, 1967 |page=10). I've added both to the article. And, of course, Mariska's last name is Hargitay. (talk) 04:35, 17 March 2026 (UTC)

- Quaerens-veritatem, the first source you cited failed verification; it does not mention Mickey Hargitay or Mariska Hargitay. Using it to support the proposition that Mickey was Mariska's legal father would violate WP:SYNTH. I have no way to access the second source, so I am not sure exactly what it says about Hargitay's paternity. (Is there a link anywhere?) It may be the source we need, but I have no way to be sure; in any event, the place where you inserted it was problematic because it split up the first part of the sentence from the source that supported it. I have removed both sources. What we need is a source that supports the proposition that Mickey Hargitay was Mariska's legal father, and we need it placed in the infobox next to the statement that Mickey is Mariska's legal father. ~2026-72635-4 (talk) 19:09, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
