Thanks for opening this discussion. Manny Machado is Dominican-American. I don't understand the reticence to claim otherwise.

Per WP:ETHNICITY, we do not include the ethnicity of players in the lead, just their nationality. Machado was born and raised in the United States and is only a citizen of the United States. He is just American. I know that you keep trying to compare this Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but Vlad was raised in the Dominican Republic and is a citizen of there. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have been able to sign with the Blue Jays as an international free agent and would've had to enter the draft like Machado. Hi JDDJS. It has been restored again, and I honestly think this needs a clearer consensus. Do note that WP:ETHNICITY says: Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, neither previous nationalities nor the country of birth should be mentioned in the opening paragraph unless relevant to the subject's notability.. The question should be, is Manny Machado being of Dominican descent notable enough for the opening? I firmly believe this needs a more thorough discussion to gain a clear consensus. Feel free to start an RFC if you want a wider consensus, but it's extremely clear that based on our policy, the lead should be just American. He was born and raised in the USA. He likely doesn't have DR citizenship. The World Baseball Classic team argument holds no weight. They have extremely loose rules about what team you can represent.
