Machiya as a Japan-wide (not only Kyoto) Phenomenon

edit

This article gives the impression that Machiya is almost exclusively a Kyoto phenomenon, which is inaccurate. This likely stems from the fact that most English-language information focuses on Kyoto Machiya (Kyomachi). The article needs help to:

- Be re-written in more general terms (most of the content of this article is generally applicable to all Machiya throughout urban Japan)

- Maintain Kyoto-specific information in a separate sub-heading

- Expand on localized versions of the Machiya in Edo (Tokyo), Osaka, and elsewhere

I can start this process, but someone with better Japanese ability might be able to work from the Japanese version of the article 町屋 (商家) to help fill in sections and check accuracy.

Thank you! Pmlydon (talk) 09:10, 16 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
