Primary source overuse

edit

@TenPoundHammer: I'm not going to revert you across multiple pages... Thats more time than it's worth, I do want to talk about primary source overuse though. The standard seems to be that any article which "primarily" uses primary sources has a problem. This article seems to be at or above 50% sourced to primary, no? I just think it's out of line to just drive-by tag an FA and not explain why you're doing it. Especially not in the case of a long-lived, major highway with a substantial history. Maybe it's justified with some of the smaller stub routes that don't have much to say about them in the first place, but if you really think overuse of primary sourcing is an issue, just tagging and walking away without explaining why isn't the way to go. This is a very old FA, 2008 if I am not mistaken. I don't generally expect a FA more than a decade old to reflect modern consensus around original research, sourcing, and that sort of thing. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 21:39, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Then raise the issue on the talk page, or the page of a related WikiProject, first. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 21:41, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Why? I would also note that for most of these articles I'm the one who added Wikiproject Michigan. I don't know why the wikiproject was not originally included but this was consistent and one of the issues I attempted to systemically address. For example I added it to this article. It's called gathering consensus, and it makes it seem less like you're tagging articles just to tag them. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 21:47, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Why would consenus be needed to add a tag? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 21:48, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Horse Eye's Back: See WP:Mass editing, which I've also just linked on your talk. Or WP:Tag bombing. TenPoundHammer, I just separately raised this concern at User talk:Horse Eye's Back/Archives/2025/July#Michigan Highways. I reverted most of the the road drive-by tags placed by HEB over the last month or so. Ed [talk] [OMT] 05:14, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Those are both essays and neither supports your position. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 06:02, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
