Free French
editAs per [], removed ships that sailed with the Allies after 1940, but not under the Free French flag. This is not vandalism, ok? ;) PpPachy 22:05, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Comparing the way Free France and Vichy France are talked about in other pages, none of them making a distinction in the English pages that Free French meant "joined De Gaulle immediately". It is fair to say that former Vichy ships were still Free French after they turned in the way the English speaking world understands and uses the term "Free French". The page on Richelieu for example makes the distinction of "Vichy Service" and "Free French" Service i.e. part of the free french navy after it switched sides. - Historical facts should be put into Wikipedia, not common misconceptions. The French Navy and the Free French Naval Forces were two different things, and the former never joined the latter. The FFNF were only a fraction of the French Navy. If other pages fail to make a distinction, it doesn't mean that ignorance should be spread further. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-33914-84 (talk) 10:19, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
More Ships?
editShould Lorraine battleship be part of the Free France navy —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.160.227.168 (talk) 22:19, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
- as per the previous comment (see updated link at ), no. PpPachy (talk) 16:47, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Richelieu needs to be added, but it wasn't from the beginning, they (the free french) only managed to capture it in 1942. So active FFNF 1942 onwards. An editor for ww2 stuff (talk) 11:56, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Addition of former Vichy ships
editTheir exclusion doesn't make sense as they did fight under the free french command after they changed sides and the free french navy depended heavily on their service. If someone with better edeting skills adds some symbol to symbolize their service to vichy there shouldnt be an issue. Glavenuss (talk) 22:32, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- They didn't fight under the Free French command and never flew the Free French flag with the Cross of Lorraine. They joined the Allies, not the Gaullists, and fought under their command. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-33914-84 (talk) 10:34, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
