Per WP:BLOGS – "Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established subject-matter expert, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable, independent publications."
Not every film released in the past and today is reviewed by a mainstream media source (such as The New York Times) or website (such as Deadline Hollywood). Sometimes the only reviews are found in niche publications and blogs by film experts.

In 2010, Film Comment published a list of film blogs: "The Top Film Criticism Sites: An Annotated Blog Roll".

Listed (and linked) in alphabetical order, these are the film blogs in the Film Comment article (some URLs changed since the article was published, while some blogs are no longer active):

What about Homicidal?

edit

I think perhaps the William Castle film Homicidal should be included. But I don't feel I should unilaterally insert it. Vardavas (talk) 04:59, 24 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I think it's worth putting up there. ElowynEggEater (talk) 04:12, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Actor's gender?

edit

Given the rise in awareness of cis actors playing trans characters, and the associated harms that come from cis men playing trans women specifically – see for example Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen – would it make sense to add a column identifying if the actor was known to be trans or what their gender is? It seems relevant. 24.141.118.159 (talk) 01:52, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, perhaps, or we could do something like the List of autistic fictional characters page, and note specific actors who are trans, as going through the page this morning (only going to the people who have pages on here) only finds the following as trans and playing trans characters in films noted on this page:
There are likely even more among those entries which list names of actors, but these actions have no biography pages on here, as they have been deemed as non-notable, unfortunately. Historyday01 (talk) 14:20, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

"The character is trans coded but not declared as such in the film"

Really? Entire article's not encyclopedic. CounterNationalist (talk) 01:00, 30 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Internet Archive vs. archive.today

edit

Due to stupid, self-inflicted reputational damage, archive.today was banned by Wikipedia in February 2026. Although archive.today can no longer be used for dead urls, its service does capture the entirety of web pages (publicly available and paywall content, images, too).
Meanwhile, Internet Archive has progressively deteriorated (its Save Page Now browser frequently crashes, servers often cannot handle requests, sites cannot be reached, servers cannot be found, status fails have increased, it routinely does not capture images in articles, it does not capture content behind subscription paywalls, etc.).
If editors and readers need to read an archived source and IA's capture is inadequate, archive.today might have a copy. Pyxis Solitary (yak). – not queer. 11:09, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I've been trying to change over the links myself on some other related pages, and I personally did disagree with the decision they made on archive.today as I felt that removing it would lead to... a lot of damage. And there's already some pages where the content can only be found there. So you are totally right about the Wayback Machine. Historyday01 (talk) 13:40, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

2021 Canadian film: Dawn, Her dad and the Tractor. The film is set on a Nova Scotia dairy farm, where Dawn MacGinnis, a young transgender woman, returns home after her mother’s death to mourn and reconnect with her estranged father, John Andrew (Robb Wells) and her sister ~2026-28278-56 (talk) 14:30, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
