Order

edit

The order of this table isn't apparent to the reader. It seems to be close to https://unstats.un.org/unsd/methodology/m49/overview/ but the reason for that order eludes me. I propose the table be ordered by the first column (country/region). I'd be OK with using another column but that table should at least be ordered by one of its columns. Looks to me like it is ordered by UNSD M49 Codes down to Sub-region/Intermediate Region, and the alphabetically within a subregion.--Moedk (talk) 22:49, 11 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Geoscheme

edit

There should be a column with the corresponding regions per countries, this is only a list of countries  Preceding unsigned comment added by Drizzdo (talkcontribs) 13:59, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ampersand

edit

Should the '/' be '&' or just 'and' in the subregion 'Latin America and the Caribbean / North America'? Wightowl (talk) 16:45, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I think '/' is the least confusing while 'and' would be the most confusing: "Latin America and the Caribbean and North America" could be three regions to the unsuspecting. Because '&' is often read as 'and', I think '/' is better. An angle bracket could be used to match the numeric code syntax in the "UNSD M49 Codes" column, but "Latin America and the Caribbean > North America" seems odd to me.DRMcCreedy (talk) 18:10, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I agree with DRMcCreedy, but if it needs a change, another option is to have Subregion span two columns, and have a split column for the Sub-Subregion's Caribbean & Central America. --Moedk (talk) 03:50, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I like the idea of two subregion columns. It would avoid any confusion. DRMcCreedy (talk) 17:01, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
On second thought, my suggestion of a split column would mess with the ability to sort columns :( --Moedk (talk) 05:43, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Countries with full/official names

edit

Why does Tanzania get its official full name "United Republic of Tanzania" when so many other countries do not?

Ditto for Afghanistan, which is here listed as Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the pre-Taliban government that's not even in power anymore! Strategos' Risk (talk) 06:23, 10 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

I propose using the names as listed in the geoscheme itself (and noting that in the column heading). DRMcCreedy (talk) 15:45, 10 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
