@Adamstom.97: In regards to your recent revert, I'd also point to Wikipedia:Writing about women § Marriage as justification for the change. Note, in either case, this is not about "banning" certain terms, just trying to use better, more inclusive language. CaptainAngus (talk) 01:36, 24 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
- I don't feel strongly enough about this wording to get into a big debate about it, but your edit did strike me as a bit misguided, particularly since your reasoning was linked to MOS:GNL. That guideline does not advocate for the general removal of gendered words, it is about using non-gendered words for situations where genders do not need to be taken into account. I disagree that removing the word "wife" is "better, more inclusive language", as we are talking about someone who actually is a wife. I also find some of the wording in the WP:WAW essay to be problematic and am not sure we should be following its guidance: for example, it says the wording of 'X is the wife of Y' is bad because it "casts the male as possessor", but advocates for using the wording 'Y is the husband of X' as an alternative. - adamstom97 (talk) 16:07, 24 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
